Steve Soderstrom
Stephen Andrew Soderstrom (born April 3, 1972) is a former Major League Baseball player who played for the San Francisco Giants in 1996. Amateur career A native of Turlock, California, Soderstrom attended Turlock High School and was drafted by the New York Mets in the 15th Round (402nd overall) of the 1990 amateur draft. He didn't sign, and went on to pitch for Fresno State University. In 1991, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod Baseball League. In 1993, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants sixth overall in the 1993 amateur entry draft. Professional career Soderstrom spent three years in the Giants' organization before getting to the major leagues. The 6'3", 215 pound right-hander made his major league debut on September 17, 1996. His stay in the majors lasted just 10 days, as his final MLB game was on September 27. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. A base on balls (BB), also known as a walk, occurs in baseball when a batter receives four pitches that the umpire calls '' balls'', and is in turn awarded first base without the possibility of being called out. The base on balls is defined in Section 2.00 of baseball's Official Rules, and further detail is given in 6.08(a). It is considered a faux pas for a professional player to literally walk to first base; the batter-runner and any advancing runners normally jog on such a play. The term "base on balls" distinguishes a walk from the other manners in which a batter can be awarded first base without liability to be put out (e.g., hit by pitch (HBP), catcher's interference). Turlock is a city in Stanislaus County, California, United States. Its estimated 2019 population of 73,631 made it the second-largest city in Stanislaus County after Modesto. History Founded on December 22, 1871, by prominent grain farmer John William Mitchell, the town consisted of a post office, a depot, a grain warehouse and a few other buildings.
