Stephen George Simpson is an American mathematician whose research concerns the foundations of mathematics, including work in mathematical logic, recursion theory, and Ramsey theory. He is known for his extensive development of the field of reverse mathematics founded by Harvey Friedman, in which the goal is to determine which axioms are needed to prove certain mathematical theorems. He has also argued for the benefits of finitistic mathematical systems, such as primitive recursive arithmetic, which do not include actual infinity. A conference in honor of Simpson's 70th birthday was organized in May 2016. Education Simpson graduated in 1966 from Lehigh University with a B.A. (summa cum laude) and M.A. in mathematics. Stephan Simpson (born 3 December 1963) is a South African former professional wrestler, better known by the ring name Steve Simpson. Professional wrestling career Simpson is the son of wrestler Sammy Cohen. Sammy Cohen was the stage name for father Alec Simpson. Steve started wrestling in 1984 and achieved his first amount of stardom in the National Wrestling Alliance's Pacific Northwest territory. He was half of the S&S Express with Joe Savoldi and they captured the Tag Team Titles there. Steve Simpson also worked for the World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico. In 1986, Steve went to World Class Championship Wrestling where he became an ally of the Von Erich family in their war with the Fabulous Freebirds. A New South Wales State of Origin and Australia international representative , he could also play or and played his entire club career for the Newcastle Knights, with whom he won the 2001 NRL Premiership. Stephen Simpson (born 8 January 1984) is a South African-American professional racing driver currently competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and previously in the A1 Grand Prix, Champ Car Atlantic Championship and the Indy Pro Series, among others. Biography Simpson was born on 8 January 1984 in Poole, Dorset, England and he moved to South Africa with his family when he was 10 months old. Stephen Simpson (July 24, 1789 – August 17, 1854) was born in Philadelphia, the son of George Simpson, a prominent Philadelphia banker. During the War of 1812 he fought in the Battle of New Orleans under General Andrew Jackson. Through his father's connections Stephen became a cashier at the First Bank of the United States where he soon resigned and went to work at Stephen Girard's bank. Soon after he worked as a writer for a local newspaper where he wrote a series of editorials publicly attacking the First Bank of the United States. He later co-founded the ''Columbian Observer'' where he continued his public attacks on this bank. Simpson later preferred writing over political pursuits and is also noted for his other works which include a dual biography of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and another biography critical of prominent Philadelphia banker Girard. Stephen Simpson (1793–1869) was a doctor and civil servant in Queensland, Australia. He was a founding Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Early life Stephen Simpson was born on 29 July 1793 in Wolston, Warwickshire, England, the son of Thomas Simpson and his wife Anne (née Bank). From 1813 to 1817 he was a soldier with the 4th Light Dragoons. After that he studied medicine in Edinburgh. He became interested in homeopathy. Stephen James Simpson (born 26 June 1957) is the executive director of Obesity Australia and the academic director of the Charles Perkins Centre. Born in Australia, he graduated with a BSc from the University of Queensland in 1978, and completed his PhD at King's College London in 1982 on locust feeding physiology. He spent 22 years in Oxford, in Experimental Psychology, the Department of Zoology, and the University Museum of Natural History, before returning to Australia in 2005, in the School of Biological Sciences at Sydney University.
