Steve Ross (born Steven J. Ross in Elmont, New York on December 29, 1949) is an American motion picture director living in Memphis, Tennessee. He is best known for his documentary ''Oh Freedom After While,'' a story of the Missouri sharecropper strike of 1939. Ross received a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York in 1971 and a master's degree from New York University in 1974. He is a professor at the University of Memphis and was named Communicator of the Year by the Tennessee Speech Communication Association in 1999. Steven Jay Ross (born Steven Jay Rechnitz; April 5, 1927 – December 20, 1992) was an American businessman and CEO of Time Warner (now Warner Bros. Discovery), Warner Communications, and Kinney National Services, Inc. Ross is also known for popularizing soccer in the United States. Early life and education Ross was born Steven Jay Rechnitz on April 5, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York City, the son of Jewish immigrants. His father—who lost all his money during the Great Depression—changed the family name to ''Ross'' in hope of finding work with fewer struggles. Ross attended Paul Smith's College for two years and then joined the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he went to work at his uncle's store in the Garment District in Manhattan. Stephen Douglas Ross (born November 10, 1980) is a Canadian former professional basketball player. Professional career Ross signed with Donar (then known as GasTerra Flames after their sponsor) of the Dutch Basketball League (DBL) in 2009. He was a part of the league winning squad in 2010 and won the NBB Cup in 2011. In the 2011–12 season, Ross played in Romania for SCM CSU Craiova. In the 2012–13 season he played for another Romanian club, U-Mobitelco Cluj-Napoca. He signed with Belgian team Excelsior Brussels, that was preparing for its first Ethias League season in history for the 2013–14 season. National team career Ross played for the Canada national team and played at the 2002 FIBA World Championship, held in Indianapolis. Steven Ross (born 29 August 1993) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays for Buckie Thistle as a striker. Career Ross County A member of Ross County's youth squad, Ross was sent out on loan during the 2011–12 season to Highland Football League sides Brora Rangers and Forres Mechanics to gain first team experience. On his return from his loans he signed a one-year contract extension, extending his stay until May 2013. On 29 September 2012, he made his first team debut, coming on as an 87th-minute substitute in a Scottish Premier League match against St Mirren, replacing Iain Vigurs in a 5–4 defeat. Steven Richard Ross (born December 8, 1938) is an American cabaret singer and pianist, known for his interpretations of the Great American Songbook, particularly the music of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Noël Coward. He is a revivalist of popular compositions from the early-to-mid 20th century, including ragtime, Tin Pan Alley, show tunes, musical theatre and patter songs. Stephan Ross (September 20, 1931 – February 24, 2020), also known as Steve Ross, was a Polish-American holocaust survivor who spearheaded the creation of the New England Holocaust Memorial. Early life Ross was born Szmulek Rozental on September 20, 1931 near Łódź. He was the youngest of eight children. After the German Invasion of Poland, Ross' parents sent him to live with a Christian family. The family, however, feared punishment and sent Ross to live in the nearby woods. Imprisonment during the Holocaust In 1940, Ross was taken by the Nazis to the labor camp at Budzyń; the first of ten labor or extermination camps he was imprisoned in. During his time in the camps, Ross was made to drink chemicals as part of the Nazi's medical experiments, had his back broken, and suffered from tuberculosis, lice, scales, and boils.
