Steve Rogers (basketball)
Steven Maurice Rogers (born July 30, 1968) is an American retired professional basketball player. A 6'5" and 190 lb shooting guard, Rogers played his freshman year of college basketball at Middle Tennessee State before transferring to Alabama State for his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He was selected by the New Jersey Nets in the 2nd round (40th overall) of the 1992 NBA Draft, though he never played in a regular season game for the Nets. He played overseas in Europe and South America before returning to Alabama State, where he has worked as their director of football operations and as an assistant basketball coach. In May 2020, Rogers was named Head Boys Basketball Coach of the Prattville High School Lions. Personal life Rogers is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Alabama High School Athletic Association
The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), based in Montgomery, is the governing body for interscholastic athletics and activities programs for public schools in Alabama. The AHSAA is a member National Federation of State High School Associations since 1924. The AHSAA merged with the Alabama Interscholastic Athletic Association in 1968, forming one high school athletic association for the State of Alabama in accordance with a court order relating to athletics. The AIAA had previously governed athletics at segregated African-American schools. The AHSAA sponsors state championships programs in 13 boys and 13 girls sports: Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Football, Cross Country, Soccer, Swimming and Diving, Track and Field, Tennis, Volleyball, Wrestling, Cheerleading and Indoor Track. The National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division I is the highest level of amateur basketball in the United States. The 1992 NBA draft took place on June 24, 1992, at Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon. The draft is considered to be one of the deepest in NBA history. The top three picks (Shaquille O'Neal, Alonzo Mourning, Christian Laettner) were considered can't-miss prospects. O'Neal and Mourning are Hall of Famers; O'Neal and Mourning are (individual) player-inducted.
