Steve Harris (musician)
Stephen Percy Harris (born 12 March 1956) is an English musician who is the bassist, keyboardist, backing vocalist, primary songwriter and founder/leader of heavy metal music, heavy metal band Iron Maiden. He has been the band's only constant member since their inception in 1975 and, along with guitarist Dave Murray (musician), Dave Murray, the only member to appear on every album. Harris has a recognisable and popular style of bass playing, particularly the "gallop" which can be found on many Iron Maiden recordings, such as the singles "Run to the Hills" and "The Trooper". In addition to his role as the band's bass player, writer and backing vocalist, he has undertaken many other roles for the group, such as producing and co-producing their albums, directing and editing their live videos and performing studio keyboards and synthesisers. He has played Eugene Young on the legal drama ''The Practice'', Detective Isaiah "Bird" Freeman on the NBC drama ''Awake'' and Charles McCarter in Tyler Perry’s ''Diary of a Mad Black Woman''. Early life Harris was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John Harris, a bus driver and Mattie Harris, a housewife. He is the older brother of actor Wood Harris. He attended St. Joseph High School in Westchester, IL, a private school with a reputation for developing star athletes. Harris was a running back, and later played linebacker for Northern Illinois University, where he studied drama. His athletic career was cut short due to a torn ligament in his ankle. Stephen John Harris (16 August 1948 – 11 January 2008) was an English jazz drummer and composer. Born in Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, he took up drums at the age of 14 and was soon playing in pop and soul bands. In the late 1960s he was a member of the progressive rock band Woody Kern who recorded on Pye Records. From 1987 onwards, Harris was a member of the Nottingham-based band Pinski Zoo, who blended free jazz with funk. In 2001 he formed the group Zaum, named after the Russian Futurist concept Zaum. Their 2004 recording '' Above Our Heads the Sky Splits Open'' is highly regarded, achieving a 5-star rating in The Penguin Guide to Jazz. Zaum's final recording before his death was the octet record "I hope you never love anything as much as I love you". Shy were a British metal band formed in 1980 under the name "Trojan", hailing from Birmingham, England.
