Steve Day
Steve Day is a British deaf stand-up comedian. Stand-up comedy Day was a finalist in the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award in 2000, and a finalist in the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year in 2002. Day has had several one-man shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe: "Deaf in the Afternoon" (2002), "A Night at the Pictures" (2005), "Comprehensive Steve Day" (2006), "A Night at the Pictures (2007), Should I Stay or Should I Go? (2008)", and "Run, deaf Boy, Run" (2011). In 2005, Day performed as part of "Abnormally Funny People", with Steve Best, Liz Carr, Tanyalee Davis, Chris McCausland and Simon Minty. He still makes occasional performances as part of the group, most recently a promotional video for the Disability Rights Commission. He tours extensively around the UK. Hackney Empire New Act Of The Year
The NATYS: New Acts of The Year Showcase, previously known as The Hackney Empire New Act of the Year, is an annual industry showcase that promotes new waves of emerging Comedy and Variety acts. It ran at the Hackney Empire Theatre from 1988 until 2010. Since then it has toured round London theatres and performance spaces, playing the Barbican Theatre, Stratford Circus, Bloomsbury Theatre, Leicester Square Theatre and The Bernie Grant Arts Centre. History Roland and Claire Muldoon, of underground theatre group CAST, pioneered "new variety", auditioning many of the acts that became the new wave of comedy and performance in the UK. The process evolved into the New Act of the Year Show produced by Claire and compered by Roland from 1982. Edinburgh Festival Fringe
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe (also referred to as The Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe, or Edinburgh Fringe Festival) is the world's largest arts and media festival, which in 2019 spanned 25 days and featured more than 59,600 performances of 3,841 different shows in 322 venues. Established in 1947 as an alternative to (and on the fringe of) the Edinburgh International Festival, it takes place in Edinburgh every August. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has become a world-leading celebration of arts and culture, surpassed only by the Olympics and the World Cup in terms of global ticketed events. Steve Best
Steven Best (born December 1955) is an American philosopher, writer, speaker and activist. His concerns include animal rights, species extinction, human overpopulation, ecological crisis, biotechnology, liberation politics, terrorism, mass media and culture, globalization, and capitalist domination. He is Associate Professor of Humanities and Philosophy at the University of Texas at El Paso. He has published 13 books and over 200 articles and reviews. Liz Carr
Liz Carr is an English actress, comedian, broadcaster and international disability rights activist. Early life and education Carr was born 21 April 1972 in Port Sunlight and grew up in Bebington, Merseyside. She attended Upton Hall School FCJ in Upton, Merseyside and Birkenhead High School in Birkenhead. Carr studied law at the University of Nottingham. Disability activism Carr has used a wheelchair since the age of seven owing to arthrogryposis multiplex congenita and frequently refers to her condition in her stand-up as "meus thronus kaputus". She is frank about her life as a disabled person and the inherent comedy that brings: "I've had some tuts, which is fantastic... Tanyalee Davis
Tanyalee Davis (born 27 November 1970) is a Canadian-American comedian. Davis has a form of dwarfism called diastrophic dysplasia and is tall. Career In November 1999, she placed second in the Seattle Comedy Competition. She was the first woman in 10 years to make it into the finals. In October 2012, she placed sixth overall in the San Francisco Comedy Festival. In April 2001, she headlined at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. She won the 2003 Norman G. Brooks Standup Comedy Scholarship Competition held at the Hollywood Improv. In August 2003, she was part of the "US Comedy Invasion" show, performing at the world's largest arts festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland. Chris McCausland
Chris McCausland (born ) is a British actor and comedian. He is known to television audiences for his role as Rudi in the CBeebies show ''Me Too! (British TV series), Me Too!'' He regularly appears at comedy venues around the UK, including The Comedy Store (London), The Comedy Store. McCausland is Visual impairment, blind due to retinitis pigmentosa. Early life McCausland was born in West_Derby, West Derby Village in Liverpool but has lived in Surbiton, near Kingston upon Thames, since 1996, after moving there to study at Kingston University. He graduated in 2000, with a BSc Honours in software engineering. Sutton Coldfield or the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, known locally as Sutton ( ), is a town and civil parish in the City of Birmingham, West Midlands, England. The town lies around 8 miles northeast of Birmingham city centre, 9 miles south of Lichfield, 7 miles southwest of Tamworth and 7 miles east of Walsall. Georgina Oladapo
Georgina Oladapo Day (née Oladapo; born 15 May 1967) is a former English sprinter and long jumper. A bronze medallist in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1985 European Junior Championships, she went on to be a member of the British quartet that finished fifth in the 4 × 400 metres relay final at the 1995 World Championships, and to represent Great Britain in the women's 4 × 400 metres relay at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Biography Georgina was born on 15 May 1967 in Lewisham. She achieved her best times in the 100 metres and 200 metres with 11.64 and 23.65 secs in 1985.
