Steve Buxton (American Football)
Steve Buxton (born December 23, 1961) is a former American football offensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Indiana State University. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the eighth round of the 1985 NFL Draft. Buxton was also drafted in the 5th round with the 63rd overall pick in the 1985 USFL Draft by the Birmingham Stallions. Buxton is the only player from Sullivan, Illinois to ever be drafted into the NFL. Buxton lettered all four years at Indiana State from 1981 to 1984. Tackle (gridiron Football Position)
Tackle is a playing position in gridiron football. Historically, in the one-platoon system prevalent in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a tackle played on both offense and defense. In the modern system of specialized units, offensive tackle and defensive tackle are separate positions, and the stand-alone term "tackle" refers to the offensive tackle position only. The offensive tackle (OT, T) is a position on the offensive line, left and right. Like other offensive linemen, their job is to block: to physically keep defenders away from the offensive player who has the football and enable him to advance the football and eventually score a touchdown. NCAA Division I Football Championship
The NCAA Division I Football Championship is an annual post-season college football game, played since 2006, used to determine a national champion of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). From 1978 to 2005, the game was known as the NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship. The game serves as the final match of an annual postseason bracket tournament between top teams in FCS. Since 2013, 24 teams normally participate in the tournament, with some teams receiving automatic bids upon winning their conference championship, and other teams determined by a selection committee. The 1984 Indiana State Sycamores football team represented Indiana State University as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) during the 1984 NCAA Division I-AA football season. They were led by fifth-year head coach Dennis Raetz and played their home games at Memorial Stadium. Indiana State finished the season 9–3 overall and 4–1 in MVC play to place second. Indiana State University (ISU) is a public university in Terre Haute, Indiana. It was founded in 1865 and offers over 100 undergraduate majors and more than 75 graduate and professional programs. Sullivan, Illinois
Sullivan is a city in Moultrie County, Illinois, United States. The population was 4,413 at the time of the 2020 census. It is the county seat and largest city of Moultrie County. Sullivan is named after Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, where Fort Moultrie is located. History Sullivan was founded in 1845 as Asa's Point.
