Stephenville, Texas
Stephenville is a city in and the county seat of Erath County, Texas, United States. It is on the North Bosque River, which forms nearby. Founded in 1854, it is home to Tarleton State University. As of the 2020 census, the city's population was 20,847, and it is the principal city in the Stephenville Micropolitan Statistical Area. Stephenville is among several communities that call themselves the "Cowboy Capital of the World". History Stephenville is named after John M. Stephen, who settled there in 1854, and donated the land for the townsite laid out by George B. Erath when the county was organized in 1856. In the first two years of its settlement, the population increased to 776. The population then declined until 1871, because the townsite was in Comanche territory and raids were common, and because the hardships of the American Civil War led citizens to leave. Stephenville High School, or SHS, is a public high school located in Stephenville, Texas and classified as a 4A school by the University Interscholastic League. It is part of the Stephenville Independent School District located in central Erath County. In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. Athletics The Stephenville Yellow Jackets compete in the following sports Cross Country, Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Powerlifting, Soccer, Golf, Tennis, Track, Softball & Baseball SHS has been one of the most successful football programs in the state of Texas in recent years. Though it did not make the playoffs from 1952 to 1989, the arrival of Art Briles helped turn the program around. Bluff Dale Independent School District
Bluff Dale Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Bluff Dale, Texas. Located in Erath County, a small portion of the district lies in Hood County. The district has one school that serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. As part of the successful $5.1 million 2018 bond election, Bluff Dale was able to build a new Junior/Senior High School which includes 6 instructional rooms, 1 science lab, a new gym and locker rooms, kitchen, cafeteria, library and media center.
