Stephen Walker (sculptor)
Stephen Walker (1927 – 16 June 2014) was an Australian sculptor who was made a member of the Order of Australia in 1985. In 2011, he was inducted into the Music Victoria Hall of Fame. Early life Walker was born in Balwyn or Colac, Victoria in Australia in 1927. He left school at age 13 but attended Melbourne Teachers' College from 1945 to 1947 before moving to Hobart in 1948. In the 1950s he repeatedly traveled to Europe, studying sculpting under Henry Moore from 1954 to 1956 and visiting Rome, Florence and Prague through scholarships. On his return to Australia he settled in Tasmania. Work Walker mainly created bronze sculptures, including the ''Tank Stream Fountain'' (1981) in Herald Square near Circular Quay, Sydney and a memorial for Antarctic explorer Louis Bernacchi at Hobart's Victoria Dock. Tolkien's Prose Style
The prose style of J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth books, especially '' The Lord of the Rings'', is remarkably varied. Commentators have noted that Tolkien selected linguistic registers to suit different peoples, such as simple and modern for Hobbits and more archaic for Dwarves, Elves, and Riders of Rohan. This allowed him to use the Hobbits to mediate between the modern reader and the heroic and archaic realm of fantasy. The Orcs, too, are depicted in different voices: the Orc-leader Grishnákh speaks in bullying tones, while the minor functionary Gorbag uses grumbling modern speech. Tolkien's prose style was attacked by scholars of literature such as Catharine R. Stimpson and Burton Raffel in the 20th century. Steve Walker (born January 12, 1973) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former professional ice hockey player. He is currently serving as head coach of EC KAC in Austria. Playing career Born in Collingwood, Ontario, Walker played junior hockey for the Stayner Siskins, Owen Sound Platers and the Barrie Colts before turning pro in 1993, playing nine games for the ECHL's Wheeling Thunderbirds. Modern English are an English New wave music, new wave/post-punk band formed in 1979 in Colchester, Essex, England. Spitfire (UK Band)
Spitfire are a British rock band from Crawley, West Sussex, whose ever-changing line-up revolved around brothers Nick and Jeff Pitcher. Other members included Steve White, Justin Welch, Steven Walker (who went on to play in the Auteurs and Modern English), Matt Wise, and Scott Kenny. Two early EPs on Eve Recordings saw the band linked to the shoegazing scene, and to the Scene That Celebrates Itself, although a cover of "The Six Million Dollar Man" theme staked out their retro appeal. Around this time, the band were involved in several controversial incidents; including the handing out of backstage passes for groupies, and a string of apparently sexist proclamations to the music press of the time. 3RRR (pronounced "Three Triple R", or simply "Triple R") is an Australian community radio station, based in Melbourne. 3RRR first commenced broadcasting in 1976 from the studios of 3ST, the student radio station of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (now RMIT University), on an educational licence with the name 3RMT. In 1979 it relocated to Fitzroy, and adopted its present name. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, it became synonymous with the post punk and new wave subcultures.
