The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the British soap opera '' EastEnders'' in 2022, by order of first appearance. All characters are introduced by the show's senior executive producer, Kate Oates, and executive producer, Jon Sen, or his successor, Chris Clenshaw. The first character to be introduced is Nina Gupta (Hersha Verity) in February, who was introduced as the new GP. Balvinder Sopal
Balvinder Sopal (born 4 December 1979) is an English actress. Having previously made appearances in British soap operas including ''Emmerdale'', ''Coronation Street'', ''Doctors (2000 TV series), Doctors'' and ''Hollyoaks'', she has portrayed the role of Suki Panesar in the BBC One, BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'' since January 2020. Gillian Wright
Gillian Wright (born 5 May 1960) is an English actress, best known for portraying the role of Jean Slater on the BBC One, BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'' since 2004, for which she has won a number of awards. She was a teacher and theatre director before occupying acting roles. Career Wright was originally signed for one episode on ''EastEnders'' in December 2004, but bosses brought her back into the series a year later for four more episodes. Jean Slater
Jean Slater (also Walters) is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera, ''EastEnders'', played by Gillian Wright. Her first appearance is in the episode first broadcast in the United Kingdom on 16 December 2004. Having only been introduced for one episode, Wright was reintroduced as a regular character the following year. The character is introduced as the mother of Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) who suffers with bipolar disorder. Her disorder strains her relationship with her children, Stacey and Sean Slater (Robert Kazinsky). Wright researched the disorder to prepare for the role.
