Stephen Harvey (biologist)
Stephen C. Harvey (born 1940) is a structural biologist with research interest in nucleic acids, the ribosome, virus structure and high density lipoprotein. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysicat the University of Pennsylvania and professor emeritus and Georgia Research Alliance eminent scholar emeritus in thSchool of Biologyat the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia. Harvey did his undergraduate work at the University of California (Berkeley), where he received his A.B. degree in physics. In the 1960s, he worked as a rocket test engineer on the Apollo program (the lunar mission project) and served with the Peace Corps in Colombia, before entering graduate school in physics at Dartmouth College, where he received his PhD in biophysics in 1971. Nucleic Acid
Nucleic acids are biopolymers, macromolecules, essential to all known forms of life. They are composed of nucleotides, which are the monomers made of three components: a 5-carbon sugar, a phosphate group and a nitrogenous base. The two main classes of nucleic acids are deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA). Marie Weaver
Marie Weaver is an American artist who specializes in ceramic sculpture, printmaking, book arts, and graphic design. Weaver earned a B. A. from the University of Vermont and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University. Weaver lives and works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Weaver's career began as an apprentice to Vermont printmaker Sabra Field and evolved into graphic design. From 1990 through 2002 she was head of the graphic design program in the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Molecular Dynamics
Molecular dynamics (MD) is a computer simulation method for analyzing the physical movements of atoms and molecules. The atoms and molecules are allowed to interact for a fixed period of time, giving a view of the dynamic "evolution" of the system. The Biophysical Society is an international scientific society whose purpose is to lead the development and dissemination of knowledge in biophysics.
