Stephen E. Johnson
Stephen Elliot Johnson (born 1955) is a retired rear admiral in the United States Navy. Biography A native of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Johnson graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1977 with degrees in accounting and information management. Career Johnson served as commander of the submarine from 1992 to 1995. From 1998 to 2003, he served as program manager in the production of the s. Later, he served as Director of Undersea Technology of the Naval Sea Systems Command and took command of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. In 2006, he was named Director of Strategic Systems Programs. Commendation Medal
The Commendation Medal is a mid-level United States military decoration presented for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service. Each branch of the United States Armed Forces issues its own version of the Commendation Medal, with a fifth version existing for acts of joint military service performed under the Department of Defense. The Commendation Medal was originally only a service ribbon and was first awarded by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard in 1943. An Army Commendation Ribbon followed in 1945 and in 1949 the Navy, Coast Guard, and Army Commendation ribbons were renamed the "Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant". By 1960 the Commendation Ribbons had been authorized as full medals and were subsequently referred to as Commendation Medals.
