Camogie All Stars Awards
The Camogie All Star Awards are awarded each November to 15 players who have made outstanding contributions to the Irish stick and ball team sport of camogie in the 15 traditional positions on the field: goalkeeper, three full backs, three half-backs, two midfields, three half-forwards and three full-forwards. They were awarded for the first time in 2003 as an independent initiative sponsored by a hotel group and accorded official status by the Camogie Association in 2004. In 2004 a team of the century was also chosen to commemorate the centenary of the sport. O'Neill's are the present title sponsors of the awards. The leading awards winner is Gemma O'Connor of Cork with eleven awards. Liam Dunne
Liam Dunne (born 12 June 1968) is an Irish former Hurling, hurler who played as a centre-back at senior level for the Wexford county hurling team, Wexford county team. Born in Oulart, County Wexford, Dunne first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Oulart National School. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Wexford minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1988 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 1988 championship. Dunne immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland medal and two Leinster Senior Hurling Championship, Leinster medals. The 2009 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship—known as the Gala All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship for sponsorship reasons— is the high point of the 2009 season in the sport of camogie. It commenced on 20 June 2009 and ended with the final on 13 September 2009. Eight teams competed in the Senior Championship out of twenty-seven who competed overall in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Championships. The final of the 2009 Senior Championship was contested by Cork—the reigning champions—and Kilkenny at Croke Park on 13 September 2009. The final was available to view worldwide.
