Stephen Dick (born 21 June 1985 in Kirkcaldy) is a Scottish field hockey player who plays as a forward. He is 6'1". Competing for Scotland and Great Britain at numerous tournaments, he is representing Great Britain in Field hockey at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He has 68 caps representing Scotland and 24 caps representing Great Britain as of 11 August 2008. He attended Balwearie High School. Kirkcaldy
Kirkcaldy ( ; sco, Kirkcaldy; gd, Cair Chaladain) is a town and former royal burgh in Fife, on the east coast of Scotland. It is about north of Edinburgh and south-southwest of Dundee. The town had a recorded population of 49,460 in 2011, making it Fife's second-largest settlement and the List of towns and cities in Scotland by population, 12th most populous settlement in Scotland. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Great Britain Men's National Field Hockey Team
The Great Britain men's national field hockey team represents the United Kingdom in Olympic field hockey tournaments. The team won gold at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp and the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. The team won the 2017 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. In all other competitions, including the Hockey World Cup, the Commonwealth Games and some editions of the Hockey Champions Trophy, the four home nations compete in their own right: England, Ireland (includes both the Republic and Northern Ireland), Scotland and Wales. Field hockey at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing was held over a fourteen-day period beginning on 10 August, and culminating with the medal finals on 22 and 23 August. All games were played at the hockey field constructed on the Olympic Green. Competition format Twelve teams competed in both the men's and women's Olympic hockey tournaments with the competition consisting of two rounds. In the first round, teams were divided into two pools of six teams, and play followed round robin format with each of the teams playing all other teams in the pool once. Edinburgh University Men's Hockey Club is the official men's hockey club for The University of Edinburgh. It currently comprises eight men's teams, which makes it the largest men's university field hockey and sports club in the United Kingdom, with over 190 active members. Each team plays in regional Saturday league matches across eastern districts of Scotland and the top teams play in the national leagues and central leagues.
