Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. North Melbourne Football Club
The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is a professional Australian rules football club. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Kangaroos also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. Brian Buckley (footballer, Born 1935)
Brian Alan Buckley (3 August 1935 – 2 August 2014) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family He was the son of Fitzroy footballer Jack Buckley. His brother, John Buckley, played with Coburg in the VFA. He married Beverley Love. They had three children: a daughter, Sharyn, and two sons, Mark and Stephen, each of whom later played at Carlton. He made his debut with the First XVII on 4 August 1956 – in place of the selected back pocket, Vin English – in the round 16 match against Collingwood, which Carlton won 12.12 (84) to 9.17 (71). Mark Buckley
Mark Buckley (born 25 August 1962) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton, St Kilda and the Brisbane Bears in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Recruited from St Mark's, Buckley participated in a Carlton Under-19s premiership in 1979, not playing seniors until 1982. His four games in 1982 all came in the home and away season wins, with Carlton going on to win a second successive premiership. Buckley had become the third member of his family to play at Carlton, with his elder brother Stephen making six appearances in the 1980 VFL season and their father Brian playing over 100 games. In the opening round of the 1983 VFL season, against Richmond, Buckley replaced an injured Ross Ditchburn at full-forward during the match and kicked six goals.
