Stephen Adams (composer)
Michael Maybrick (31 January 1841 – 26 August 1913) was an English composer and singer, best known under his pseudonym Stephen Adams as the composer of " The Holy City", one of the most popular religious songs in English. Early life Maybrick was born at 8 Church Alley, Liverpool, the fourth of the eight children of William Maybrick (1815–1853?), an engraver and his wife, Susannah (1815?–1883?). Both his grandfather and father served as parish clerk at St Peter's, Liverpool, and were minor composers. His uncle Michael Maybrick (1799–1846) was organist at St Peter's, wrote sacred music, and conducted the Liverpool Choral Society. Having become proficient on the piano by the age of eight, the young Maybrick studied the organ with W. T. Best and at the age of fifteen became organist of St Peter's; he also wrote anthems and had a work performed in London. His current holdings include Good Sam Enterprises, a national publishing, retail stores, and member-based direct marketing organization directed toward owners of recreational vehicles and Adams Outdoor Advertising, an operator of outdoor advertising structures in the Midwest, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. His previous holdings have included operators of television and radio stations, print publishers, cola bottlers and community banks. Early life Adams was born in 1937 and was raised in Minnesota. Adams received a bachelor's degree in 1959 from Yale University, where he was a member of Skull and Bones. He received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1962. Stephen Adams (born 28 September 1989) is a Ghanaian Football (soccer), footballer who plays as a goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper. Club career In 2010, Adams' club Aduana Stars won the Ghana Premier League. He was named Ghana's best domestically based goalkeeper in the same year. International career Adams earned his first call-up for Ghana national football team, Ghana on 13 May 2010 for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. On 13 January 2014, he made his debut for the Black Stars against Republic of the Congo national football team, Congo at the 2014 African Nations Championship. He was the team's first choice goalkeeper at the tournament, conceding only one goal in six matches as Ghana finished as runner-up to Libya national football team, Libya. Stephen Adams (October 17, 1807May 11, 1857) was a slave owner and United States Representative (1845 to 1847) and United States Senate, Senator (1852 to 1857) from Mississippi. Early years Adams was born to David Adams, a Baptists, Baptist clergyman, in Pendleton, South Carolina, he moved with his parents to Franklin County, Tennessee in 1812. He attended the public schools, studied law, was admitted to the bar association, bar in 1829, practiced in Franklin County. He was a slave owner. Career He was a member of the Tennessee Senate, from 1833 to 1834, when he removed to Aberdeen, Mississippi and commenced the practice of law. He was circuit court judge from 1837 to 1846, and was elected as a Democratic Party (United States), Democratic representative to the Twenty-ninth Congress, serving from March 4, 1845 to March 3, 1847. Steven Funaki Adams (born 20 July 1993) is a New Zealand professional basketball player for the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association (NBA). After playing one season with his hometown team, the Wellington Saints, in 2011, Adams moved to the United States in 2012 to play college basketball for Pittsburgh. Adams was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. He was the Thunder's primary starting center for six consecutive seasons. In 2014 he released his first solo album, ''House Music'', with contributions from Dan Mangan, Justin Young from The Vaccines, Martin Green from Lau and Emily Barker.
