Steinbach Regional Secondary School
Steinbach Regional Secondary School is a large public high school located in Steinbach, Manitoba, the second largest high school in the province with over 1900 students. The school was built in 1972 and was opened by then premier, Ed Schreyer on January 25, 1973. A second expansion of 100,000 square feet to the school was completed in 2014 and grade nine was added to the school. The school offers extensive academic, arts, music and vocational programming. Steinbach Regional is part of Hanover School Division, which is the second largest school division in Manitoba after the Winnipeg School Division. The sports teams are known as the Sabres. Manitoba Historical Society
The Manitoba Historical Society is a historical society in the province of Manitoba, Canada. It was created in 1879 by an act of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, and describes itself as "the oldest organization in western Canada devoted to the promotion of public interest in, and preservation of, the region’s historical resources". The society publishes a journal called ''Manitoba History'' and presents an annual literary award called the Margaret McWilliams Award. The current president of the society is Gordon Goldsborough. Ralph Krueger
Ralph Krueger (born 31 August 1959) is a Canadian-born German professional ice hockey coach and former player. He is the former head coach of the Edmonton Oilers and Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL), and former chairman of Southampton Football Club. Since April 2019, he has held a Swiss passport. He was head coach of the Swiss men's national ice hockey team from the 1997–98 season until the end of the XXI Olympic Winter Games in 2010 and the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL) during the 2012–13 season. In 2014, Krueger shifted from hockey to the world of association football, to become director of English Premier League team Southampton. Ian White (ice Hockey)
Ian White (born June 4, 1984) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played over 500 games in the National Hockey League. In a career spanning parts of nine seasons, White suited up for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings. White was originally selected in the sixth round, 191st overall in the 2002 NHL Draft. He returned to professional hockey in 2022 with the Columbus River Dragons of the Federal Prospects Hockey League. The Waking Eyes
The Waking Eyes is a Canadian rock band from Winnipeg and Steinbach, Manitoba. History The band formed after the break-up of two other Manitoba bands, The Pets from Steinbach and Novillero from Winnipeg. In 2002 The Waking Eyes released a full-length album, '' Combing the Clouds''. In 2004 The Waking Eyes followed up with a second album, '' Video Sound''. The album won a 2005 Western Canada Music Award. Shortly before the album was released, bassist Russ Dufault left the band, temporarily replaced by The Meligrove Band's Michael Small (for a short tour and the "Watch Your Money" music video), before Joey Penner was introduced. The Undecided was a p op punk band from Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada. History The Undecided formed as a punk band in 1994 with members singer Matt Fast, drummer Steve Dueck, John Paul Peters guitar and Mike Kehler. Miriam Toews
Miriam Toews (; born 1964) is a Canadian writer and author of nine books, including ''A Complicated Kindness'' (2004), '' All My Puny Sorrows'' (2014), and '' Women Talking'' (2018). She has won a number of literary prizes including the Governor General's Award for Fiction and the Writers' Trust Engel/Findley Award for her body of work. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. Michelle Sawatzky-Koop
Michelle Sawatzky-Koop (born July 14, 1970 in Steinbach, Manitoba) is a Canadian former volleyball player and radio broadcaster. She competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia with the Women's National Team, where the team finished 9th. As a university player for the Manitoba Bisons, she was a two-time CIS Championship MVP in 1990 and 1991, as well a two-time CIS player of the year for the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons. Sawatzky was a part of the Bison's women's volleyball team that won three CIS championships in 1990, 1991 and 1992. In 1995, she joined the Canadian national team, who won a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Argentina. Royal Canoe is a Canadian indie pop band from Winnipeg and Steinbach, Manitoba. History The band formed in 2010 from members of Manitoba bands The Waking Eyes, The Liptonians and TELE. They have toured with Alt-J and Bombay Bicycle Club. In 2014, Royal Canoe was nominated for Alternative Album of the Year at the Juno Awards.
