Steffen Streich
Steffen Streich is a German ultra-endurance bicycle racer living in Greece, who won the 2015 "Trans Africa Bicycle Race". Biography Streich, who was born in East Berlin, Germany lives and trains on the island of Lesbos in Greece. In 2015, Streich won the Trans Afrika Bicycle Race from Beitbridge to Cape Town with a time of 8 days 19 hours and 28 minutes, setting a new record for the event. In 2016, Streich was leading the Trans Am Bike Race with 110 miles to go. Unfortunately, on the final morning he woke and in confusion, started out in the wrong direction. He realized his error when he encountered Lael Wilcox, an American woman who had been forty miles behind. Ultra-distance Cycling
The definition of ultra-distance cycling is far more vague than in ultra running (any race longer than a marathon) or in ultra-triathlon (any race longer than an Ironman Triathlon). Any bike race or ride longer than a century ride, which is , is sometimes considered to be ultra-distance cycling. However, such events are relatively common, so using a longer distance to define the category is more useful, such as any race or ride that is longer than , or even a double century, . Bike events that cover these distances but which are split into stages do not fit most definitions of ultra-distance races - the clock needs to run continuously from start to finish. Trans Am Bike Race
The Trans Am Bike Race (TABR) is an annual, self-supported, ultra-distance cycling race across the United States. The route is about long and uses the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail that was developed by the Adventure Cycling Association for the Bikecentennial event in 1976. The route runs from the Pacific coast in Astoria, Oregon to the Atlantic coast in Yorktown, Virginia, passing through ten states. The inaugural race was in 2014, which 25 people completed, the fastest of whom took less than 18 days. It is not a stage race; the clock never stops from the moment the riders leave the start to the moment that they reach the finish, so it is a long individual time trial. Riders must therefore strategically choose how much time to devote to riding, resting, and refueling each day. Lael Wilcox
Lael Wilcox (born July 18, 1987) is an Ultra-distance cycling, ultra-endurance bicycle racer who won the Trans Am Bike Race in 2016, and set Tour Divide's women's course record on an individual time trial (ITT) in 2015. She was the first American to win the Trans Am. She also set the overall course record with her time on the Baja Divide route. Personal Wilcox grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. She graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 2008 with degrees in natural science and French literature. Wilcox started bicycling in 2008 at age 20, when she and her then boyfriend, Nicholas Carman, decided to tour the world. Working stints to collect money, the two set out on a bicycle tour of over thirty countries. Michael Richard Hall (4 June 1981 – 31 March 2017) was a British cyclist and race organiser who specialised in self-supported ultra-distance cycling races. In 2012, he won the inaugural World Cycle Race. In 2013 and 2016, he won the Tour Divide ultra-endurance mountain bike race across the Rocky Mountains in Canada and the United States. In 2014, he won the inaugural Trans Am Bike Race, a road-based event from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast in the United States. From 2013, he was the principal organiser of the Transcontinental Race, an event similar to the TransAm Bicycle Race, but that traverses Europe.
