Stefan Brennsteiner
Stefan Brennsteiner (born 3 October 1991) is an Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer, and specializes in giant slalom. He has competed in two Winter Olympics and three World Championships. Brennsteiner made his World Cup debut at age 21 in October 2012 at Sölden, Austria, and reached his first podium in February 2021 at Bansko, Bulgaria. Career Brennsteiner began competing as a junior in December 2006. His first win came in 2010, in the giant slalom at the Austrian National Junior Race. He represented Austria in the giant slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics, however, failed to finish his second run. Brennsteiner achieved his first World Cup podium in February 2021 in Bansko; after finishing his first run in fifth position, he moved ahead of Alexis Pinturault and Henrik Kristoffersen after his second run, finishing in third position. Giant Slalom
Giant slalom (GS) is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding discipline. It involves skiing between sets of poles ("gates") spaced at a greater distance from each other than in slalom but less than in Super-G. Giant slalom and slalom make up the technical events in alpine ski racing. This category separates them from the speed events of Super-G and downhill. The technical events are normally composed of two runs, held on different courses on the same ski run. Course The vertical drop for a GS course must be for men, and for women. The number of gates in this event is 56–70 for men and 46–58 for women. The number of direction changes in a GS course equals 11–15% of the vertical drop of the course in metres, 13–18% for children. FIS Alpine Ski World Cup
The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is the top international circuit of alpine skiing competitions, launched in 1966 by a group of ski racing friends and experts which included French journalist Serge Lang and the alpine ski team directors from France (Honore Bonnet) and the USA ( Bob Beattie). Alpine Skiing At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Men's Giant Slalom
The men's giant slalom competition of the Beijing 2022 Olympics was held on 13 February, on " Ice River" course at the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre in Yanqing District. Marco Odermatt of Switzerland won the event. Žan Kranjec of Slovenia won the silver medal, and Mathieu Faivre of France bronze. For all of them, they got their first Olympic medals. Marcel Hirscher, the 2018 champion, retired from competitions. The silver medalist, Henrik Kristoffersen, and the bronze medalist, Alexis Pinturault, qualified for the Olympics. Alpine Skiing At The 2022 Winter Olympics
Alpine skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre in Yanqing District, China. The competitions took place from 6 to 20 February 2022. Speed events were held on "Rock" course and technical events on "Ice River" course, for both men and women. Team event was held on "Rainbow." A total of 306 quota spots (153 per gender) were distributed to the alpine skiing, a reduction of 14 from 2018. Eleven events were contested: five for men, five for women, and one mixed (team). Qualification A maximum of 306 quota spots were available to athletes to compete at the games. A maximum of twenty-two athletes could be entered by a National Olympic Committee, with a maximum of eleven men or eleven women. Loïc Meillard
Loïc Meillard (born 29 October 1996) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer and specializes in the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Born in Neuchâtel, Meillard made his World Cup debut in January 2015; his younger sister Mélanie is also a World Cup alpine racer. Career Meillard made his World Cup debut at age 18 in the Adelboden giant slalom in January 2015. At the Junior World Championships that March at Hafjell, Norway, he won a bronze medal in the super-G, silver in the giant slalom, and gold in the combined. Podkoren (, german: Wurzen) is a settlement in the Municipality of Kranjska Gora in the northwestern Upper Carniola region of Slovenia. Geography It is situated in the Upper Sava Valley. Henrik Kristoffersen (born 2 July 1994) is a Norwegian World Cup alpine ski racer, World Champion, and Olympic medalist. He specializes in the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Career Born in Rælingen in Akershus county, Kristoffersen made his World Cup debut in March 2012 in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, and attained his first podium in November 2013, a third-place finish in slalom at Levi, Finland. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Kristoffersen won the bronze medal in slalom at Rosa Khutor at age 19 to become the youngest male medalist in Olympic alpine skiing history. Alexis Pinturault () (born 20 March 1991) is a French World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic medalist. With 34 World Cup victories, Pinturault is the most successful French skier in World Cup history. He represented France at six World Championships and three Winter Olympics, with four bronze medals in the giant slalom. He was the overall World Cup champion in 2021. Bansko ( bg, Банско ) is a town in southwestern Bulgaria, located at the foot of the Pirin, Pirin Mountains at an elevation of 1200m AMSL, above sea level. It is a ski resort. Legends There are several legends about who founded Bansko. According to one, Bansko was founded by people who lived in Dobarsko, a village in Rila, itself, according to a legend, founded by the blinded army of Tsar Samuil of Bulgaria, Samuil. Another legend claims that Bansko was founded by an Italy, Italian painter by the name of Ciociolino, hence the existence of the name Chucholin in Bansko. Rettenbach is a World Cup giant slalom ski course in Austria on Rettenbach glacier above Sölden, Tyrol. Located on Wildspitze mountain in the Ötztal Alps, the race course debuted in 1993. This course hosted total of 21 World Cup events for men ( 19th of all-time) and total 24 World Cup events for women ( 19th of all-time).
