Steelfest
Steelfest Open Air is an annual black metal music festival located in Hyvinkää, Finland, 60 kilometres north of Helsinki. Founded by Jani Laine, the first edition occurred in 2012. It traditionally took place over two days in May at the Villatehdas venue from 2012 to 2019 before being halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Upon its return, it became a four-day event in 2022 and a three-day event in 2023. In recent years, the festival has become controversial over its frequent presence of National Socialist black metal bands. History Founder Jani Laine organised his first metal concert in 2008 to a small crowd. In 2012, Laine and his network of promoters put together the first Steelfest, held in the Villatehdas (Wool Factory) in Hyvinkää, Finland on 18 and 19 May. It featured bands such as Entombed, Impaled Nazarene, The Crown and Taake. Peste Noire are a French black metal band from La Chaise-Dieu, France. The band was formed by "La sale Famine de Valfunde" (Ludovic Faure), also known simply as "Famine", in 2000. Their music uses standard black metal elements mixed with traditional Gallic instrumentation, and influences from genres like punk and electronic music. Hyvinkää (; sv, Hyvinge, ) is a city and municipality of Finland. It is located in the Uusimaa region, approximately north of the capital Helsinki. The city was chartered in 1960. Dark Funeral
Dark Funeral is a Swedish black metal band from Stockholm, founded by guitarists Blackmoon and Lord Ahriman in 1993. They emerged during the second wave of black metal. Their lyrical themes have traditionally pertained to Satanism and anti-Christianity. Certain past and present members including Blackmoon, Ahriman, Caligula, and Chaq Mol have each declared an affinity for Satanism, with Ahriman and Caligula notably being practitioners of LaVeyan Satanism. In their earlier years, their lyrical themes usually revolved specifically around depictions of Hell and Satan. Carpathian Forest is a Norwegian black metal band formed by Nattefrost and Nordavind in 1992. History In late 1990, the band originally started under the name Enthrone by Nattefrost (then bearing the pseudonym Lord Nosferatu) and Nordavind (who used the pseudonym Lord Karnstein). Together they produced a self-released demo tape, ''Black Winds'', in 1991. In 1992, Enthrone changed its name to "Carpathian Forest", and Lord Blackmangler and Damnatus joined their line-up. Graveland are a Polish pagan black metal band which was formed in 1991 by Rob Darken (born Robert Fudali). They began as a black metal band before adopting a pagan and Viking metal style. The lyrics and imagery of Graveland are strongly inspired by European mythology, nature, winter and war. Their early work focused on Celtic and Slavic mythology, while their later work focuses on Norse mythology and Wotanism. 1349 is a Norwegian black metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1997. The band's name is a reference to the year the Black Death reached Norway. History 1349 formed in 1997 and comprises several former members of the band Alvheim. Drummer Frost is also a member of Satyricon. Blasphemy are a Canadian black metal band based in Vancouver, British Columbia. History Blasphemy formed in 1984. The band released a demo titled ''Blood Upon the Altar'' in 1989 and their debut album, '' Fallen Angel of Doom'', the following year through Wild Rags, a record label they had signed to while touring the United States. Their second full-length studio album was the 1993 '' Gods of War'' released through Osmose Productions. In 1993, Blasphemy also took part in the "Fuck Christ Tour" and toured through Europe with Immortal and Rotting Christ. Blasphemy was then inactive for several years. Sargeist
Sargeist is a Finnish black metal band formed in 1999. Originally created as a solo project by Shatraug of the Finnish black metal act Horna, he was joined by other members since 2000, who subsequently left the band. After the demo recording ''Tyranny Returns'' (2001), the line-up was augmented by Hoath Torog and Horns, both from the Finnish black metal outfit Behexen, and this line-up remained stable until 2016.
