Stearns, Kentucky
Stearns is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in McCreary County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,365 at the 2020 census. It was founded by Justus Smith Stearns. Geography Stearns is located in south-central McCreary County at (36.697976, -84.476776). It is bordered to the north by Whitley City, the county seat, and to the south by Pine Knot. The unincorporated community of Revelo is partly within the Stearns CDP, along its southern border. U.S. Route 27 runs along the eastern edge of Stearns, leading north through Whitley City to Somerset and south to Oneida, Tennessee. Kentucky Route 92 passes through the center of Stearns and leads west to Monticello. Eastbound KY 92 joins US 27 south to Pine Knot, then turns east to lead to Williamsburg. Monroe is a town in Green County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 10,142 at the 2000 census. The City of Monroe is located partially within the town. The unincorporated community of Stearns is also located in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 33.0 square miles (85.6 km2), of which, 33.0 square miles (85.6 km2) of it is land and 0.03% is water. Stearns County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 158,292. Its county seat and largest city is St. Cloud. The county was founded in 1855. It was originally named for Isaac Ingalls Stevens, then renamed for Charles Thomas Stearns. Stearns County is part of the St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Minneapolis- St. Paul Combined Statistical Area. History The Stearns County area was formerly occupied by numerous indigenous tribes, such as the Sioux ( Dakota), Chippewa (Ojibwe) and Winnebago (Ho-chunk). Northern Star Council is a Boy Scout Council headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The council was formerly the Viking Council and Indianhead Council until the two councils merged on July 1, 2005. The council serves communities across central Minnesota and western Wisconsin, encompassing 25 counties. History The Viking Council was founded on October 15, 1910, as the Minneapolis Council. Stearns Wharf
Stearns Wharf is a pier at the cross section of the end of State Street and Cabrillo, in the harbor in Santa Barbara, California, United States. When completed In 1872, it became the longest deep-water pier between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Named for its builder, local lumberman John P. Stearns, the wharf served the passenger and freight shipping needs of California's South Coast for over a quarter century. Before the wharf, passengers and cargo had to be rowed ashore through the breakers and kelp. Despite the great convenience offered by the wharf, Santa Barbara remained a fair-weather harbor with an acute need for a breakwater. During December 1878, storms destroyed and washed away more than 1,000 feet of the wharf. Despite these losses, it would be another 52 years before Santa Barbara got its needed breakwater. F. B. Stearns and Company, later known as F.B. Stearns Company was an American manufacturer of luxury cars in Cleveland, Ohio marketed under the brand names Stearns from 1900 to 1911 then Stearns-Knight from 1911 until 1929. History Frank Ballou Stearns (1879–1955) left school at age 14 in 1893 in his freshman year at the Case School of Applied Science in Cleveland Ohio. At the age of 17 Stearns drove his first car, which incidentally he also built in 1896 in Cleveland. His father, F.M. Stearns, had built a fortune in the stone-quarry industry, and decided to indulge his son Frank with a fully equipped machine shop located in the basement of his home on the prestigious Euclid Avenue. Stearns is a lunar impact crater on the far side of the Moon. Unlike many lunar craters, this is a relatively fresh and well-defined impact feature with little appearance of erosion. The rim edge is sharp and roughly circular, with some unevenness. The inner walls are simple slopes down to piles of talus along the base. At the midpoint of the somewhat uneven interior floor is a central peak. This crater is located about midway between Appleton to the northwest and Nušl to the southeast. 2035 Stearns, provisional designation , is a bright Hungaria asteroid and sizable Mars-crosser inside the inner regions of the asteroid belt, approximately in diameter. It was discovered on 21 September 1973, by American astronomer James Gibson at the Leoncito Astronomical Complex in Argentina. The transitional E-type asteroid has a long rotation period of 93 hours.
