Steam Era
Steam-Era is a festival held every Labour Day Weekend in the Town of Milton, Ontario featuring historic steam tractors. Well known for its eye on the past, the community annually celebrates the Milton Steam Era — populated by hundreds of steam-powered tractors, engines, and farm implements converging to salute a bygone era. Traditionally Milton's Steam Era has also featured a parade of steam tractors down Main St. Origins & History A small group of local men, chatting at a machine shop in August, 1960, came up with the idea of a “steam show” — an annual event, where owners of vintage, steam-powered vehicles could parade their antique treasures. Labour Day ('' Labor Day'' in the United States) is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. Milton, Ontario
Milton (Canada 2016 Census, 2016 census population 110,128) is a town in Southern Ontario, Canada, and part of the Regional Municipality of Halton, Halton Region in the Greater Toronto Area. Between 2001 and 2011, Milton was the fastest growing municipality in Canada, with a 71.4% increase in population from 2001 to 2006 and another 56.5% increase from 2006 to 2011. In 2016, Milton's census population was 110,128 with an estimated growth to 228,000 by 2031. It remained the fastest growing community in Ontario but was deemed to be the sixth fastest growing in Canada at that time. Burford, Ontario
Burford is a rural community and is part of the County of Brant, in central southwestern Ontario. It has 1,058 residents (2021 Census). It is located eight kilometres west of the City of Brantford along Highway 53, and seventy kilometres east of London, Ontario. It is approximately 100 km southwest of Toronto. Administrative offices for the County of Brant are located in Burford, making it one of three service hubs for the county (the others being Paris and St. George). Amongst designated heritage properties in the area is the former Burford Armoury, built in 1906, which was important for military training in earlier days when Canada had an active militia force in each county (the role now served by the Canadian Forces Reserves). Brookville, Ontario
Brookville is a hamlet in Milton, Ontario, Canada. History The settlement was originally called "Nassagaweya". It was located within Nassagaweya Township. In 1831, Elias Easterbrook and his wife Hannah Youart settled in Nassagaweya and built a large house. Their son, Thomas Easterbrook, became the first reeve and treasurer of the township, and the settlement of Nassagaweya was renamed "Easterbrook" in his honour. It was later renamed "Brookville", which still used part of Easterbrook's name. The Nassagiweya post office operated from 1840 to 1914, and Thomas Easterbrook was postmaster from 1844 to 1868. In 1852, Thomas Easterbrook built a store which was also used as a post office. That same year he erected a hotel and wheat storehouse, though the hotel burned shortly after being built. Miss Canada
Miss Canada is a beauty pageant for young women in Canada. It was founded in Hamilton in 1946. No title was awarded from 1993 through 2008. The trademark was purchased in 2009 by a Québec organization who produces the pageant under the name to this day. According to the new Miss Canada and Miss Teen Canada web site, the title was re-established with a focus on personality over physical appearance. The Miss Canada competition is Canada's oldest extant beauty pageant. Winnifred Blair of Saint John, New Brunswick was proclaimed the first "Miss Canada" on 11 February 1923 at an earlier, unrelated competition during the Montreal Winter Carnival. The runner-up in that event was Muriel Harper of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Miss Teen Canada
Miss Teen Canada was a personality and beauty competition in Canada for women aged 14 to 17. The event started in 1969 and was televised on CTV. The pageant was named Miss Teenage Canada for its first three years and was originally sponsored by A&W Drive-Ins. Cleo Productions, who owned the event for most of its years, closed the contest down in 1990 due to financial concerns. Several teen pageants exist again in Canada today, the biggest of which is Miss Teenage Canada, run by Michelle Weswaldi, Miss World Canada 1996.
