Statyba
BC Statyba was a basketball club from Vilnius, Lithuania. It was renamed to Lietuvos rytas in 1997. History In 1963, Vilnius's first basketball club, called Žalgiris, was established. In 1964, the team changed its name to Plastikas, but was renamed to Statyba before the start of the season. In 1965, Statyba became the Žalgiris association champions, and finished third in the Lithuanian cup tournament. The next year they improved and finished in second place in the Lithuanian cup tournament. In 1966, the team made their debut in the USSR A class championship, which was a second-tier championship, where they finished in fourth place. Statyba's most successful season came in 1979, when they finished in third place in the top division – the USSR Premier Basketball League. Over the years, Statyba became one of the biggest rivals for Žalgiris Kaunas. Rytas Vilnius is a Lithuanian professional basketball club based in Vilnius, Lithuania. The club was founded in 1997 from another club, Statyba, and has become one of the most successful Lithuanian basketball clubs. BC Statyba was a Vilnius basketball club. The club was founded in 2011 as a successor to previous BC Statyba, which in 1997 was renamed to Lietuvos Rytas and currently considers itself to be a new club and not a continuation of Statyba. Šarūnas Marčiulionis
Raimondas Šarūnas Marčiulionis () (born June 13, 1964) is a Lithuanian retired professional basketball player. Widely considered one of the greatest international players, he was one of the first Europeans to become a regular in the National Basketball Association (NBA). On August 8, 2014, Marčiulionis was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and became a member of the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2015. In the 1988 Summer Olympics, together with teammate Arvydas Sabonis, Marčiulionis led the senior USSR national team to the gold medal. With the senior Lithuanian national team, he won two Summer Olympics bronze medals, in 1992 and 1996. Artūras Karnišovas (born April 27, 1971) is a Lithuanian professional basketball executive and former player. He is the current executive vice president of basketball operations of the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Early life and college career Karnišovas was born in Klaipėda to Mykolas, a basketball player, and Irena. Jonas Kazlauskas (born 21 November 1954) is a Lithuanian professional basketball coach and former player. He was most recently the head coach of the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Playing career Kazlauskas played for Statyba Vilnius from 1973 to 1985. Alfredas Vainauskas, born 16 January 1961 in Vilnius, Lithuanian SSR), is a Lithuanian basketball coach, currently coaching Utena women's basketball team. Playing career In 1978, Vainauskas started his career with BC Statyba. With this team, he won a bronze medal in the USSR League in 1979.
