Government Of Barbados
The Government of Barbados (GoB), is a unitary parliamentary republic, where the President of Barbados represents as the head of state and the Prime Minister of Barbados represents as the head of government. Structure The country has a bicameral legislature and a political party system, based on universal adult suffrage and fair elections. The Senate has 21 members, appointed by the President, 12 on the advice of the Prime Minister, two on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition, and seven at the President's sole discretion. The House of Assembly has 30 members, all elected. Both houses debate all legislation. However, the House of Assembly may override Senate's rejection of money bills and other bills except bills amending the Constitution. Barbados Agricultural Development And Marketing Corporation
Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. It occupies an area of and has a population of about 287,000 (2019 estimate). Its capital and largest city is Bridgetown. Inhabited by Kalinago people since the 13th century, and prior to that by other Amerindians, Spanish navigators took possession of Barbados in the late 15th century, claiming it for the Crown of Castile. Barbados Museum & Historical Society
The Barbados Museum & Historical Society is a private organization but membership is open to both members and non-members who are interested in the numerous collections. Established in 1933 in the old Military Prison at the Saint Ann's historic Garrison, the museum has more than 500,000 artifacts that depict the islands rich history and natural history. Inclusive of some of these artifacts are antique maps of the island and paintings. Besides visiting the museum to view its artifacts, the museum's grounds can also be rented to hold private events such as parties and weddings. Barbados Water Authority
Barbados Water Authority Limited (BWA), a government statutory corporation, is the sole provider of water services. Water supplied by the BWA in Barbados is pumped from wells within natural coral aquifers. The geology of Barbados is mostly composed of karst limestone which acts as a filter medium within the aquifers. The water service in Barbados is reliable and the water supply is safe and refreshing to drink, although the water source naturally of high quality; the BWA treats the potable water supply with chlorine to comply with World Health Organization (WHO) standards. Desalination plant Due to high demand, a desalination plant was built to augment the existing groundwater. Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation
The Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is a public radio and television broadcaster, located in The Pine, St. Michael in Barbados. It was founded in 1963 as Radio Barbados. The CBC falls under the ministry and jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's Office. The television service broadcasts on channel 8 and is the only legally licensed, over-the-air television channel broadcasting in the country of Barbados. The corporation also owns and operates three radio stations: CBC Radio on 94.7 MHz FM and 900 kHz AM, The One on 98.1 MHz FM and Q-100.7 on 100.7 MHz FM. The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) is a statutory body in Barbados, created by an Act of Parliament in March 1983. Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Bridgetown
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Q.E.H.) is located in Barbados' capital city Bridgetown, which is located in the parish of Saint Michael. The hospital is the main General Hospital for the southern part of the island. The hospital can perform most surgeries, and specialized care includes the areas of: gynaecology, paediatrics, obstetrics, cardiac surgery, plastic surgery, psychotherapy, radiology, radiography and ophthalmology. The Q.E.H. boasts also having a series of operating theaters. The Q.E.H. is a 600-bed complex lying in the Eastern section of Bridgetown, located on the southeast bank of the Constitution River.
