State Route 257 (Alabama)
State Route 257 (SR 257) is a route serving as a connection between SR 195 at Jasper to Duncan Bridge in Walker County. Once entering Winston County the route becomes Winston County Road 41 (CR 41). The road is also signed as the Curry Highway. Route description The southern terminus of SR 257 is at its intersection with SR 195 northeast of Jasper. From this point, the route takes a northeasterly course as two-lane undivided Curry Highway, passing through wooded areas with some homes. The road leaves Jasper and continues through forested areas with some fields and residences. The route curves north and passes through the community of Curry, where it intersects CR 43. From Curry, SR 257 travels in a northerly direction through more rural areas before curving northwest and coming to its northern terminus at the Winston County line. Jasper, Alabama
Jasper is a city in and the county seat of Walker County, Alabama, United States. Its population was 14,352 as of the 2010 census. Named in honor of Sergeant William Jasper, an American Revolutionary War hero, Jasper was settled around 1815 and incorporated on August 18, 1886. The first significant growth of the area was in 1886, when the Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroad and the Sheffield & Birmingham Railroads were completed through Jasper. The population grew from 200 people in 1886 to more than 3,000 in 1890. In a special edition in 1891, the ''Mountain Eagle'' stated there were six coal mines, two sandstone quarries, 400 coke ovens, one foundry and machine shop, two saw mills, one brick works, four hotels, and two banks. Curry is an unincorporated community in north-central Walker County Alabama, United States. It is the closest community to the Lewis Smith Lake dam. Winston County is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 23,540. Its county seat is Double Springs.
