State Route 199 (Alabama)
State Route 199 (SR 199) is a route that serves as a connection between SR 81 in Tuskegee with SR 14 east of Tallassee. Route description The southern terminus of SR 199 is located at its intersection with SR 81 near Tuskegee. From this point, the route travels in a northwesterly direction, where it passes under I-85 without an interchange, towards Chehaw where it turns to the west before resuming its northwesterly track just west of the city limits. It continues in this direction through to just south of Woodland where it turns to the north en route to its northern terminus at SR 14. North of its terminus, it continues as Macon County Road 35 (CR 35). Tuskegee () is a city in Macon County, Alabama, United States. It was founded and laid out in 1833 by General Thomas Simpson Woodward, a Creek War veteran under Andrew Jackson, and made the county seat that year. It was incorporated in 1843. Tallassee (pronounced ) is a city on the Tallapoosa River, located in both Elmore and Tallapoosa counties in the U.S. state of Alabama. At the 2020 census, the population was 4,763. State Route 81 (SR 81) is a state highway in the central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The southern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with US 29/ US 80/ SR 81 Truck in Tuskegee. The northern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 14 in Notasulga. Route description SR 81 is a two-lane road for its entire length. In addition to connecting Tuskegee and Notasulga, it serves as a route for motorists traveling on Interstate 85 (I-85) to access the two towns. Traffic on SR 81 increases significantly when the Auburn Tigers football team is playing at Jordan–Hare Stadium. Motorists traveling from the west along I-85 can exit onto SR 81 and follow it to eastbound SR 14, which leads to Auburn. Alabama State Route 14
State Route 14 (SR 14) is a major east-to-west state highway in the U.S. state of Alabama. Spanning , the highway begins at the Mississippi state line at the terminus of Mississippi Highway 69 (MS 69) and connects the cities of Selma and Prattville before ending at SR 147 on the western side of Auburn. History SR 14 was one of the original routes in the Alabama's first statewide highway system in the 1920s. The original routing followed much of the same path as today, but was significantly shorter. The highway as built then started in Selma and traveled east along its current route to Auburn. As was standard for highways of the era, SR 14 was unpaved for its full length. Interstate 85 (I-85) is a part of the Interstate Highway System that runs from Montgomery, Alabama, to Petersburg, Virginia. In Alabama, the Interstate Highway runs from I-65 in Montgomery northeast to the Georgia state line near Valley. I-85 is the primary highway between Montgomery and Atlanta.
