State Route 191 (SR 191) is a state highway that serves as a connection between Maplesville and Jemison in western Chilton County. SR 191 intersects SR 22 at its southern terminus and US 31 at its northern terminus. Route description SR 191 begins at its intersection with SR 22 just east of Maplesville. The route progresses in a northerly direction through its intersection with County Road 36 (CR 36) where it turns in a northeasterly direction en route to its northern terminus at US 31 in Jemison. Maplesville is a town in Chilton County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 637. It is located approximately halfway between Tuscaloosa and Montgomery on U.S. Route 82. The mayor of Maplesville is W. C. Hayes, Jr. History The town of Maplesville first began to grow in a location east of its present location, near Mulberry Creek. European settlers migrated to the area from Georgia and the Carolinas following the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814, after the Native Americans who had been living there were defeated. The town was named after Stephen W. Maples, a merchant and the town's first postmaster. The town was located at the crossroads of two important trading routes: the Elyton Road from Selma to Birmingham, and the Fort Jackson Road from Tuscaloosa to Montgomery. Jemison is a city in Chilton County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 2,642. The center of population of Alabama is located outside of Jemison, an area known as Jemison Division. Geography Jemison is located in northern Chilton County at 32°57'31.792" North, 86°44'36.841" West (32.958831, -86.743567). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and , or 0.65%, is water. History Jemison is located at the geological end of the Appalachians and was originally inhabited by the Creek Indians for the springs located in the area. In 1869, R.J. Chilton County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 45,014. The county seat is Clanton. Its name is in honor of William Parish Chilton, Sr. (1810–1871), a lawyer who became Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and later represented Montgomery County in the Congress of the Confederate States of America. State Route 22 (SR 22) is a state highway that extends from Safford in Dallas County to the Georgia state line near Roanoke in Randolph County. The route travels across most of the state from west to east. Route description Starting at an intersection with SR 5 in Safford, the route travels northeast through Selma and Maplesville. At Clanton the highway is concurrent for with U.S. Route 31 (US 31), including an intersection with Interstate 65 (I-65) near the geographical center of the state. The route proceeds towards Verbena and then crosses Mitchell Lake. The route continues east-northeast through Rockford, Alexander City, New Site and Roanoke on its way to the Georgia state line, where the road becomes Georgia State Route 34.
