State Road 520 (Florida)
State Road 520 (SR 520) is a east–west state highway in central Florida, United States, connecting with SR 50 in the Orlando area with SR A1A in Cocoa Beach. Route description It runs from SR 50 in Orange County east of Bithlo, southeast across the Beachline Expressway ( SR 528). It intersects with County Road 532 (CR 532) before crossing the St. Johns River into Brevard County. In that county it intersects SR 524 (the original approach to the Bennett Causeway) and SR 9 (Interstate 95, I-95), before entering Cocoa and intersecting SR 501, SR 519 and SR 5 (U.S. Route 1, US 1). In Cocoa, SR 520 is known as King Street. It then heads onto the Merritt Island Causeway, a series of bridges crossing the Indian River, Newfound Harbor and the Banana River. State Road 4 (SR 4) is a two-lane state highway in Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties in the western corner of the Florida Panhandle. It is signed east–west, but the road is slightly diagonal. The road runs from Century near the Alabama state line at an intersection with U.S. Highway 29 (US 29), to the farming community of Milligan at an intersection with US 90. The road cuts through the Blackwater River State Forest. It crosses the Escambia River, West Fork Big Coldwater Creek, Juniper Creek, Manning Creek, East Fork Big Coldwater Creek, Cedar Creek, Beaver Creek, the Blackwater River, and Penny Creek, all part of the Blackwater River basin (except for the Escambia River). State Road 3 (SR 3), known locally as North Courtenay Parkway, is a north–south road located entirely on Merritt Island, serving as the southern access for the Kennedy Space Center near Cape Canaveral, Florida. The shortest of the one-digit Florida State Roads, its southern terminus is an intersection with SR 520 on Merritt Island, east of Cocoa. Route description SR 3, also known as North Courtenay Parkway, runs from SR 520 north through Merritt Island and into very rural areas before terminating at the Kennedy Space Center property line. Banana River
The Banana River is a lagoon that lies between Cape Canaveral and Merritt Island in Brevard County, Florida in the United States. It is part of the Indian River Lagoon system, and connects at its south end to the Indian River; it is the only part of the lagoon system not in the Intracoastal Waterway. It also has an outlet to the Atlantic Ocean via a lock into Port Canaveral. The lagoon includes salt marshes, mangrove swamps, seagrass beds, drift algae, oyster bars, tidal flats, and spoil islands, providing habitats for many marine species. These are brackish waters mixed of salt and fresh water; waist deep with a soft bottom sand/grass. Commercial and recreational activities in the lagoon generate more than US$ 800 million annually for the local economy. The Indian River is a long brackish lagoon in Florida. It is part of the Indian River Lagoon system, which in turn forms part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. It was originally named ''Rio de Ais'' after the Ais Indian tribe, who lived along the east coast of Florida, but was later given its current name. The Indian River extends southward from the Ponce de Leon inlet in New Smyrna Beach in Volusia County southward and across the Haulover Canal and along the western shore of Merritt Island. Merritt Island Causeway
The Merritt Island Causeway, mostly in Merritt Island, connects Cocoa, Merritt Island, Florida, and Cocoa Beach, Florida. The causeway transits the Willard Peebles bridge over the Banana River Lagoon. In the 1960s, SR A1A was routed over the eastern causeway from present day SR 520 and SR A1A, to the present day intersection of SR 520 and SR 3 on Merritt Island. State Road 5 (Florida)
State Road 5 (SR 5) is a mostly-unsigned state highway in the state of Florida. It is mainly signed as US 1 from its south end in Key West, Florida to Jacksonville, Florida, and US 17 from Jacksonville to the Georgia state line at the Saint Marys River. US 1 is SR 15 northwest from Jacksonville. However, from northern Lantana through Lake Worth to Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach, SR 5 is separate from US 1, which runs to the west on the older but wider Dixie Highway. State Road 519 (Florida)
A commercial artery of central Brevard County, State Road 519 (SR 519) is a north–south highway extending from King Street ( SR 520) in Cocoa southward to Barnes Boulevard ( County Road 502) and an interchange with Interstate 95 ( SR 9) in Rockledge. It is locally known as Fiske Boulevard. North of King Street, Fiske Boulevard continues on to an intersection with Dixon Boulevard (CR 503), and ends further north within the Cocoa Hills residential subdivision. South of Barnes Boulevard, Fiske Boulevard becomes Stadium Parkway (also not a designated State or County Road), which serves Space Coast Stadium in the Carl Barger Complex in Viera. The southern end of Stadium Parkway will eventually connect to the northern terminus of the St. Johns Heritage Parkway.
