State Information Service
The State Information Service is an Egyptian government agency affiliated to the Egyptian Presidency. It is the official media and public relations apparatus of the Egyptian state, with a number of local and international offices, and its responsible for regulating the affairs of foreign press and media correspondents in Egypt. History The SIS was founded in 1954 as the Information Authority (''maslahat al-isti'lamat'', Arabic: مصلحة الإستعلامات) by the Revolutionary Command Council in the eve of the republican era, two years after the Free Officers led by colonel Gamal Abdel Nasser toppled King Farouk and abolished the Monarchy. Tharwat Okasha
Tharwat Okasha (Also spelt Sarwat Okasha, ar, ثروت عكاشة; 1921–27 February 2012) was an Egyptian writer, translator and influential minister of culture during the Nasserite era, and is known as the "founder of Egypt's cultural institutions." Biography Tharwat Okasha was an army officer involved in the Free Officers Movement, along with former president Nasser and his comrades, which toppled King Farouk of Egypt from his crown in what is known as the 23 July Revolution of 1952. As a child of an aristocratic family, Okasha received a good education, read books in foreign languages, and learned music very early on in his home. Ahmed Asmat Abdel-Meguid
Ahmed Asmat Abdel-Meguid ( ar, أحمد عصمت عبد المجيد; 22 March 1923– 21 December 2013) was an Egyptian diplomat. He served as the Foreign Minister of Egypt between 1984 and 1991, and as the Secretary-General of the Arab League from 1991 until 2001. Biography Born in Alexandria in March 1923, Abdel Meguid received a law degree from Alexandria University in 1944 before going on to obtain a doctorate of international law from the University of Paris in 1947. He joined the Egyptian foreign ministry in 1950 and worked in several departments, notably the British and French sections. In 1967 he was appointed as Chairman of the State Information Service, a post he held for a year. He became ambassador to France in 1970, deputy foreign minister in 1970, and Egypt's high representative to the United Nations in 1972. Amin Howeidi
Amin Howeidi (22 September 1921–31 October 2009) was an Egyptian military leader, author and defense minister under Nasser's rule. Early life and education Howeidi was born in Munufiya on 22 September 1921. He attended the Egyptian Military Academy and graduated in 1940. He held a master's degree in military sciences from the Chief of Staff College which he received in 1951. Then he attended the United States Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth and obtained another master's degree in military sciences in 1955. Hosni Mubarak
Muhammad Hosni El Sayed Mubarak, (; 4 May 1928 – 25 February 2020) was an Egyptian politician and military officer who served as the fourth president of Egypt from 1981 to 2011. Before he entered politics, Mubarak was a career officer in the Egyptian Air Force. He served as its commander from 1972 to 1975 and rose to the rank of air chief marshal in 1973. Mohamed Safwat El Sherif ( ar, محمد صفوت الشريف; 19 December 1933 – 13 January 2021) was an Egyptian politician who served as chairman of the State Information Service, minister of information, speaker of the Egyptian Shura Council, and secretary general of the ruling National Democratic Party, and head of the Supreme Press Council. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi
Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi; (born 19 November 1954) is an Egyptian politician and retired military officer who has served as the sixth and current president of Egypt since 2014. Diaa Rashwan
Diaa Rashwan (born 1 January 1960) is an Egyptian journalist, politician and the current Chairman of the State Information Service. Rashwan graduated from Cairo University in 1981 with a Bachelor's degree in political science from Cairo University, he also received a Master's degree in the same field from the Paris based Sorbonne University in 1985. Rashwan began his career in Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies in the early 1980s as a researcher and has been an expert scholar over there since then and many years later in 2011 he became the Director of the Center. The Ministry of Information is the ministry in charge of media and information in Egypt. History and profile The ministry was established in 1982 and it is the successor of the ministry of national guidance. Before its foundation the ministry of culture and information also dealt with the duties later held by it. The ministry was abolished in February 2011 when the new cabinet was created under Prime Minister Essam Sharaf after his predecessor Ahmed Shafiq resigned.
