State Highway Loop 322 (Texas)
Loop 322 is a loop route in the city of Abilene in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located in Taylor County. Until the late 1990s, virtually all of Loop 322 was a two-lane freeway. Today, virtually all of the road has been upgraded to typical freeway standards, except its northern terminus, which is an at-grade intersection with the service roads of Interstate 20. Route description Loop 322 starts at its junction with the Winters Freeway (US 83 and US 84) and Treadaway Blvd about 1 mile north of Abilene Regional Medical Center and continues north towards Interstate 20. Loop 322 passes through one of the fastest growing areas of Abilene right before Abilene Regional Airport. Taylor County, Texas
Taylor County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 143,208. Its county seat is Abilene. The county was created in 1858 and later organized in 1878. It is named for Edward Taylor, George Taylor, and James Taylor, three brothers who died at the Battle of the Alamo. Taylor County is included in the Abilene, TX metropolitan statistical area, and is considered part of West Texas. History Among first inhabitants of the area were the Penteka. In 1849, Capt. Two-lane Freeway
A two-lane expressway or two-lane freeway is an expressway or freeway with only one lane in each direction, and usually no median barrier. It may be built that way because of constraints, or may be intended for expansion once traffic volumes rise. Abilene Regional Airport
Abilene Regional Airport is a public airport 3 miles (5 km) southeast of Abilene, in Taylor County, Texas. It is within the Abilene city limits and owned and operated by the city. Most operations at the airport are general aviation and military training. Abilene Regional is currently served by Envoy Air, operating as American Eagle, operating daily Embraer regional jet flights to Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW). In October 2020, United Express began daily flights to Houston-Intercontinental, operated by SkyWest Airlines. The airline ceased all flights to the airport in October 2021, citing staffing issues. Texas State Highway 36
State Highway 36 (SH 36) runs from Freeport to Abilene. It was designated as the 36th Division Memorial Highway between Cameron and Sealy by the Texas Legislature in 1985. History SH 36 was originally proposed on November 21, 1917, as a route from Cisco to Waco. On December 20, 1917, this became part of SH 18. On November 20, 1917, an intercounty highway was designated from Goldthwaite to Temple. On January 24, 1918, the intercounty highway extended to Cameron. On March 18, 1918, the intercounty highway extended to Brenham. On March 20, 1918, SH 36 was designated as a route from Goldthwaite to Hearne. Cisco Junior College
Cisco College is a community college in Cisco, Texas located in Eastland County between Fort Worth and Abilene, where Highways 183, 206, and 6 intersect Interstate 20. The main campus is outside of Cisco, and the Abilene Educational Center is in Abilene. The college is accredited to award associate degrees by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
