State Highway 72 (Texas)
State Highway 72 (SH 72) is a Texas state highway that runs approximately from near Fowlerton to Cuero in South Texas. Route description SH 72 begins in far western McMullen County, near the La Salle County line, at an intersection with SH 97 north of Fowlerton. The highway has no major intersections until it intersects SH 16 north of Tilden. The two routes run concurrently into Tilden, where SH 72 resumes its eastward path, passing south of Choke Canyon Reservoir and State Park before entering Live Oak County. The highway enters Three Rivers, where it intersects and runs concurrently with US 281 through the city center. After separating from US 281, SH 72 takes a more northeasterly trajectory for the remainder of its journey. Interstate 37 (I-37) is a Interstate Highway located within the southern portion of the US state of Texas. The highway was first designated in 1959 as a route between Corpus Christi and San Antonio. Construction in the urban areas of Corpus Christi and San Antonio began in the 1960s, and the segments of the Interstate Highway in rural areas were completed by the 1980s. Prior to I-37, the route between Corpus Christi and San Antonio was served by a combination of State Highway 9 (SH 9) from Corpus Christi to Three Rivers and U.S. Highway 281 (US 281) from Three Rivers to San Antonio. As a result of the construction of I-37, SH 9 was removed from the State Highway System. Texas State Highway 202
State Highway 202 (SH 202) is a Texas state highway between Beeville and Refugio. The route was designated on January 9, 1934 from George West to Beeville as a restoration of the easternmost portion of the old SH 127 (which was reused on another road in 1932). On November 19, 1935, it was extended west to Fowlerton. On December 21, 1936, it was extended east to Refugio. By 1938, SH 202 was extended west to Cotulla (restoring more of the old SH 127) and east to Refugio. On September 26, 1939, the section of SH 202 west of George West was transferred to SH 72. On October 30, 1939, before signage was changed, SH 202 was extended to Laredo, replacing SH 257 (note that SH 202 east of George West was to be transferred to SH 257 on September 26, 1939). Cotulla, Texas
Cotulla ( ) is a city in and the county seat of La Salle County, Texas, United States. Its population was 3,718 as of the 2020 census. History Immigrant Joseph Cotulla, who was reared in Silesia, then a part of Prussia, migrated to the United States in the 1850s. He joined the Union Army in Brownsville, Texas. He lived in Atascosa County, but arrived in La Salle County in 1868 to establish what became a large ranching operation. After learning that the International-Great Northern Railroad intended to lay tracks in La Salle County, he worked to establish the town that bears his name. In 1881, Cotulla donated 120 acres of his land to the railroad, and in 1882, a depot was constructed there. In 1883, the town was granted a post office. The same year, Cotulla became the county seat by special election. Route description SH 128 begins at the New Mexico state line east of Jal, New Mexico, as New Mexico Highway 128 crosses into Texas. State Highway 44 (SH 44) is a Texas state highway that runs from west of Encinal to Corpus Christi, Texas. This highway is also known as the Cesar Chavez Memorial Highway outside the city limits of Robstown, Banquete, Agua Dulce, Alice, and Corpus Christi in Nueces and Jim Hogg counties. History SH 44 was originally proposed on April 24, 1919 as a connector route between Waco and Giddings. On July 16, 1923, the southern terminus extended south to LaGrange. Sweet Home is an unincorporated community in Lavaca County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 360 in 2000. Geography Sweet Home is located at (29.3452449, -97.0716517). It is situated at the junction of Farm Roads 318 and 531 in Lavaca County, approximately one mile east of U.S. Highway 77A. Karnes City is a city in and county seat of Karnes County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,111 at the 2020 census, up from 3,042 at the 2010 census. The town was named after Henry Karnes of the Texas Revolution. Karnes is southeast of Floresville and southeast of San Antonio on U.S. Highway 181. History In 1894, as a result of a special election, the county seat was moved from Helena to Karnes City. Ten years earlier, Colonel William G. Butler (1831–1912) had blamed Helena and its corrupt mayor for the death of his son, Emmett, who was killed on December 26, 1884, by a stray bullet from a bar fight. State Highway 3 (SH 3) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that runs from Interstate 45 in Houston near William P. Hobby Airport to State Highway 146, northwest of Galveston. For most of its length, SH 3 parallels I-45 and runs alongside the former Galveston, Houston and Henderson Railroad lines.
