State Highway 69 (Texas)
State Highway 112 (SH 112) is a short state highway that runs through the northern portions of Eastland County in the U.S. state of Texas. The routing was previously designated as State Highway 69 in 1971. Vandalism to the road signage as a result of its numbering had reached epidemic proportion by 1989, driving a resolution that the number of the road needed to be changed. The cost of resigning the roadway was considered reasonable by local governments, compared to that of the measures by law enforcement agencies that would be necessary to stop the vandalism. In 1992, the district requested and was granted renumbering of this route to State Highway 112. Route description Overall, there are two segments of the highway that run more east and west and one that runs north and south. Eastland is a city in Eastland County, Texas, United States. Its population was 3,960 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Eastland County. History During the 1920s, Eastland, like nearby Cisco, Texas, Cisco, Ranger, Texas, Ranger, and Desdemona, Texas, Desdemona, was a petroleum boomtown. Eastland is known for the legend of "Ol' Rip the Horned Toad, Old Rip", a horned toad that allegedly lived many years sealed in the cornerstone of the previous Eastland courthouse built in 1897. SH 1 State Highway 1 ran from El Paso through Dallas to Texarkana. It was the first highway designated in 1917. In 1926, the United States Highway System was designated, with US 80 colocated from El Paso to Dallas and US 67 from Dallas to Texarkana. State Highway 80 (SH 80) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that runs from Karnes City to San Marcos. History The original highway was designated on August 21, 1923 from San Marcos to Luling, replacing most of SH 29A (the rest of SH 29A was cancelled). On October 12, 1925, SH 80 was extended to Wimberley, but this did not take effect until January 1, 1926. On April 6, 1932, SH 80 had a planned extension south to Nixon designated. On February 13, 1934, SH 80 was extended west to south of Blanco. On July 17, 1934, it was rerouted to end in Refugio over part of SH 29. This change was undone on January 19, 1935. Texas State Highway 29
State Highway 29 (SH 29) runs from south of Menard, Texas, east to SH 95 in Circleville (6.0 miles north of Taylor) via Mason, Llano, Burnet, Liberty Hill, and Georgetown in central Texas, United States. In Georgetown, SH 29 is known as University Avenue and is the main east–west artery through the city, passing in front of Southwestern University, which has been on the same road since its Georgetown campus opened in 1873. An open house meeting at East View High School in Georgetown was held on September 1, 2015. The meeting's purpose was to review the upcoming plans on widening SH 29 from 2 lanes (80 ft.) to 6 lanes (160 ft.). Gonzales is a city in Gonzales County, Texas, United States. It is the county seat. The population was 7,165 at the 2020 census. The "Come and Take It" flag in the War for Texas Independence from Mexico originated in Gonzales. Its economy is enhanced through lodging oil field workers from the nearby Eagle Ford Shale. It was the site of the first battle of the Texas Revolution. History Gonzales is one of the earliest Anglo-American settlements in Texas, the first west of the Colorado River. Karnes City is a city in and county seat of Karnes County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,111 at the 2020 census, up from 3,042 at the 2010 census. Eastland County is a county located in central West Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 17,725. The county seat is Eastland. The county was founded in 1858 and later organized in 1873. Eastland Municipal Airport
SS ''Eastland'' was a passenger ship based in Chicago and used for tours. On 24 July 1915, the ship rolled over onto its side while tied to a dock in the Chicago River. In total, 844 passengers and crew were killed in what was the largest loss of life from a single shipwreck on the Great Lakes. After the disaster, ''Eastland'' was salvaged and sold to the United States Navy. After restorations and modifications, ''Eastland'' was designated a gunboat and renamed USS ''Wilmette''. She was used primarily as a training vessel on the Great Lakes, and was scrapped after World War II.
