State Highway 37 (Texas)
State Highway 37 is a state highway that runs from the Oklahoma border near Albion to Mineola in the northeast corner of the state. History SH 37 was designated as a route on April 13, 1918 from Clarksville to Lufkin. On August 21, 1923, it was pared back, with everything north of Mt. Vernon either cancelled or transferred to the new SH 66, and the portion from Jacksonville to Lufkin transferred to SH 40. On May 23, 1927, it was extended north to Talco. On June 24, 1931, it was extended north to the Oklahoma border, replacing SH 66. On July 15, 1935, everything north of Clarksville was cancelled. The section north of Clarksville was restored on December 20, 1937. On September 26, 1939, the stretch from Mineola to Tyler was transferred to U.S. Highway 69 (Cosigned with since 1934), with the remaining route continuing to the present. Mineola, Texas
Mineola is a city in the U.S. state of Texas in Wood County, Texas, Wood County. It lies 26 miles north of Tyler. Its population was 4,823 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. The town was incorporated as the railroads arrived in 1873. A railroad official, Ira H. Evans, combined the names of his daughter, Ola, and her friend, Minnie Patten, to create the city name Mineola. History Mineola came into existence when the railroads built lines through the eastern part of the state. In 1873, the Texas and Pacific Railway, Texas and Pacific and the International-Great Northern Railroad, International-Great Northern raced to see which could get to Mineola first. The I-GN reached the finish 15 minutes earlier. A city government was organized in 1873, a post office opened in 1875, and the town was incorporated in 1877, but a fire in the 1880s destroyed 18 buildings. Talco is a town in Titus County, Texas, Titus County, Texas, United States. The population was 516 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from a local candy bar (It was either a shelf carton or because the local people said it was "Texas-Arkansas-Louisiana Country hence Talco). Texas State Highway 110
State Highway 110 (SH 110) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that runs from Grand Saline to Rusk. Route description SH 110 begins at an intersection with US 84 and Loop 62 in downtown Rusk and leaves the courthouse square north with US 84, crossing US 69 on its way to a split on the northeast side of Rusk where US 84 goes off east and SH 110 turns north, out of town. The road intersects with SH 204 in Ponta. The road intersects with U.S. Highway 79 in New Summerfield before crossing the county line into Smith County as it enters Troup. After a brief downtown multiplex with SH 135, SH 110 leaves Troup going northwest through Whitehouse on its way to Tyler. Texas State Highway 40
State Highway 40 (SH 40) or William D. Fitch Parkway, runs from Farm to Market Road 2154 (FM 2154) to SH 6 in College Station, Texas. The current SH 40 was authorized in 1994. Signage for the highway went up March 2006 and the road was officially opened June 23, 2006. SH 40 occupies the overpass and intersection with SH 6 that was formerly Greens Prairie Road, which was truncated and connected to SH 40 by Arrington Road West of SH 6. Greens Prairie Road and SH 40 were renamed in honor of William D. Fitch in August 2006. Mount Vernon, Texas
Mount Vernon is a town and the county seat of Franklin County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,491 at the 2020 United States census. History Mount Vernon started as a settlement near the Fanning Springs (on Holbrook Street south of the present town square). Affidavits filed to establish land titles soon after the Texas Revolution document the settlement by squatters in Spanish Texas commencing in 1818. By 1848 the United States government established a post office, and in 1849 a formal town site was laid out on land donated by Stephen and Rebecca Keith for the town of Mount Vernon. Since there were two other Mount Vernons in Texas, the post office was called "Keith" and then "Lone Star" before the name "Mount Vernon" became available in 1875.
