State Highway 239 (Texas)
State Highway 239 (SH 239) is a Texas state highway that runs from Kenedy southwestward to Austwell. The route was designated on December 22, 1936, cancelled temporarily on March 31, 1938, and redesignated on November 13, 1939. It was extended twice, once on February 28, 1966, from U.S. Highway 183 to U.S. Highway 77 (Future Interstate 69E) and again on November 25, 1975, it was extended southeast, replacing SH 113. Kenedy is a city in Karnes County, Texas, Karnes County, Texas, United States, named for Mifflin Kenedy, who bought and wanted to develop a new town that would carry his name. The population was 3,473 at the 2020 census, up from 3,296 at the 2010 census. History In the early 1900s many of Kenedy's gunfighter shootings caused the town to be nicknamed "Six Shooter Junction". During World War II, the Kenedy Allen Detention Camp was located near the outskirts of the town, on a former Civilian Conservation Corps site. Interstate 69E (Texas)
Interstate 69E (I-69E) is a north–south freeway running through South Texas. Once complete, the freeway will begin in Brownsville and head northward before terminating near Victoria as both I-69W and I-69E merge into I-69 toward Houston. For its entire length, I-69E runs concurrently with U.S. Highway 77 (US 77). The route currently exists in two segments: a segment from its southern terminus in Brownsville to the Willacy– Kenedy county line and a shorter segment south of Corpus Christi. The route has one auxiliary Interstate route, I-169 in Brownsville. SH 1 State Highway 1 ran from El Paso through Dallas to Texarkana. It was the first highway designated in 1917. In 1926, the United States Highway System was designated, with US 80 colocated from El Paso to Dallas and US 67 from Dallas to Texarkana. On September 26, 1939, the dual designations were removed, leaving SH 1 only on a small stretch west of Dallas. This section was redesignated as State Loop 260 on August 20, 1952. Interstate 69W (I-69W) is a relatively short north–south Interstate Highway running through South Texas in the United States. The freeway begins northeast of the middle of World Trade International Bridge in Laredo and ends at I-35.
