State Highway 15 (Texas)
State Highway 15 (SH 15) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas. It runs from the Oklahoma state line east of Follett to US 54 in Stratford. Route description SH 15 begins at an intersection with US 54 in Stratford. It travels eastward through the far northern reaches of the Texas Panhandle, mainly through farmlands. The route passes through the towns of Spearman and Perryton, before exiting eastward into Northwest Oklahoma, where the road transitions to Oklahoma State Highway 15. History On October 26, 1954, SH 117 was redesignated as SH 15 for its entire route from the Texas/Oklahoma state line in Lipscomb County through the northeast Panhandle to an intersection with U.S. Highway 287 at Claude. Stratford is a town in Sherman County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,017 at the 2010 census, up from 1,991 in 2000. It is the county seat of Sherman County. History The city is named for Stratford, Virginia. Geography Stratford is located at (36.336158, –102.071451). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.3 km), all of it land. The Rita Blance National Grasslands are due west. Texas State Highway 135
State Highway 135 (SH 135) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that runs from Jacksonville to near Gladewater. History SH 135 was designated on June 22, 1928, from Troup to the Rusk County Line. On March 19, 1930, it was extended to Gladewater, replacing SH 15A. On October 27, 1953, an extension to Jacksonville along FM 347 was signed but not designated. On February 20, 1963, SH 135 was rerouted concurrent with SH 42, with the old route being transferred to FM 918 and Spur 378. The extension to Jacksonville was official designated on August 29, 1990, completing the current route and cancelling this section of FM 347. Gladewater, Texas
Gladewater is a city in Gregg and Upshur counties in the U.S. state of Texas with a 2020 census population of 6,134. In the early 20th century, Gladewater was an oil boom town. In 1995, the Texas Legislature proclaimed it the "Antique Capital of East Texas." History Gladewater was founded by the Texas and Pacific Railway Company in 1873 on land bought from Jarrett Dean and Anderson White. A community called St. Clair, to the east, moved to Gladewater when the railroad announced that the only mail stop in the area would be there; residents from Point Pleasant, also bypassed by the railroad, moved to Gladewater. The first post office at Gladewater was established on August 22, 1873. Carthage, Texas
Carthage is a city and the county seat of Panola County, Texas, United States. This city is situated in deep East Texas, 20 miles west of the Louisiana state line. Its population was 6,569 at the 2020 census. History Carthage was founded in 1847, two years after Texas was admitted to the United States. During the Civil War, men from Carthage and Panola County served as Confederate soldiers. African-American resident Milton M. Holland, formerly enslaved, served as a Union sergeant and earned a Medal of Honor. Mineola, Texas
Mineola is a city in the U.S. state of Texas in Wood County, Texas, Wood County. It lies 26 miles north of Tyler. Its population was 4,823 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. The town was incorporated as the railroads arrived in 1873. A railroad official, Ira H. Evans, combined the names of his daughter, Ola, and her friend, Minnie Patten, to create the city name Mineola. Texas State Highway 11
State Highway 11 (SH 11) is a highway that runs from US 59 (Future I-369) in Linden to SH 56 in Sherman in northeast Texas. Route description SH 11 begins at an intersection with State Highway 56 on the easternedge of Sherman, just north of the Sherman Regional Airport. The route then travels to the southeast through Northeast Texas. In 2009, it was rerouted around the city of Commerce, concurrent with State Highway 24 and State Loop 178, with the old routing through Commerce transferred to a business route. It continues southeast toward Sulphur Springs, where it shares a concurrency with State Highway 154 and the old routing of US 67, and intersects I-30 on the south side of town.
