Australian State Coach
The Australian State Coach is an enclosed, six horse-drawn coach used by the British Royal Family. The coach was presented to Queen Elizabeth II of Australia and the United Kingdom as the official gift on the occasion of the Australian Bicentennial on 8 May 1988, and first used in November of that year at the State Opening of UK Parliament. The coach was a gift from the Australian people and was designed and built by the coach builder W. J. Frecklington who subsequently built the Diamond Jubilee State Coach for Queen Elizabeth II as a private initiative. The Australian State Coach is sometimes used at the British State Opening of Parliament and other state occasions involving the Australian or foreign royal families, such as the visit of Queen Margrethe of Denmark in 2000. 1902 State Landau
The United Kingdom's 1902 State Landau is a horse-drawn carriage with a flexible leather roof which drops in two exact halves, back and front. It is a postilion landau, drawn by six horses under the control of three postilions, with no provision for a coachman. It is normally used with the top lowered, giving spectators a better view of passengers than provided by closed coaches and other vehicles; a closed coach is used if the weather is unsuitable, rather than raising the top. Diamond Jubilee State Coach
The Diamond Jubilee State Coach (initially known as the State Coach Britannia) is an enclosed, six-horse-drawn carriage that was made to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's 80th birthday, but completion was delayed for nearly eight years. Eventually, it became a commemoration for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The coach was used for the first time at the State Opening of Parliament on 4 June 2014. It has been in regular service since, and is housed in the Royal Mews along with the other state coaches. Gold State Coach
The Gold State Coach is an enclosed, eight-horse-drawn carriage used by the British Royal Family. Commissioned in 1760 by Francis Rawdon-Hastings, 1st Marquess of Hastings for King George III, it was built in the London workshops of Samuel Butler. It was commissioned for £7,562 (£3.54 million = US$4.188 million in 2022, adjusted for inflation). It was completed in 1762. This coach has been used at the coronation of every British monarch since George IV. The Lord Mayor of London's State Coach is, along with the Queen's Gold State Coach and the Speaker's State Coach, one of the three great State Coaches of the United Kingdom. Queen Alexandra's State Coach
Queen Alexandra's State Coach is one of several State Carriages maintained at the Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace. It was built around the year 1865, initially as a plain 'town coach'. Some 30 years later it was glazed and converted into a State Coach for the use of the Princess of Wales (later Queen) Alexandra. It is usually driven four-in-hand by a coachman. Like all the State Coaches it has a variety of uses, but perhaps its best-known regular duty is to convey the Imperial State Crown (together with the Sword of State, the Cap of Maintenance and their respective bearers) to and from the Palace of Westminster for the annual State Opening of Parliament. Scottish State Coach
The Scottish State Coach is an enclosed, four-horse-drawn carriage used by the British Royal Family. The coach was built in 1830 for Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge to attend the coronation of William IV, and it was used for many years by the duke's family until it was sold to William Keppel, 7th Earl of Albemarle, who converted it into a semi-State landau. In 1920, the Keppel family returned the coach to the Royal Family by presenting it as a gift to Queen Mary. Between 1968 and 1969, the coach was extensively remodelled and restored to its original enclosed state. Large glass windows and transparent panels in the roof were added, the Royal Arms and the insignia of the Order of the Thistle were emblazoned onto it and a model of the Crown of Scotland was added on top of the roof. It is the traditional horse-drawn coach in which the British monarch travels from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster to formally open the new legislative session of the UK Parliament.
