''State Affair'' was a current affairs program televised in Australia on Seven Network stations BTQ-7, ADS-7, and TVW-7 in the mid 1980s. It was the forerunner to Today Tonight. The first edition aired in 1980 on BTQ-7. ADS-7, launched their edition with weekend news presenter, Guy Blackmore in 1981. The West Australian version followed in 1982. Notable presenters included Simon Reeve (Australian television presenter), Simon Reeve (TVW-7) and Keith Conlon (ADS-10, ADS-7). The Seven Network (commonly known as Channel Seven or simply Seven) is a major Australian commercial free-to-air Television broadcasting in Australia, television network. It is owned by Seven West Media, Seven West Media Limited, and is one of five main free-to-air television networks in Australia. The network's headquarters are located in Sydney. As of 2014, it is the second-largest network in the country in terms of population reach. BTQ-7
BTQ is the Brisbane television station of the Seven Network in Australia. BTQ was the second television station to launch in Brisbane, going to air on 1 November 1959, after QTQ (station of the Nine Network) launched three months earlier. Along with other Australian television channels, BTQ began broadcasting on digital television on 1 January 2001. In the early eighties, ''Seven National News'' became the first Brisbane-based bulletin to be relayed throughout a string of independent Queensland telecasters. Within the same decade, BTQ was also a major production house for children's television - hosting popular shows as ''Wombat'', ''Now You See It'', ''Family Feud'', ''Play Your Cards Right'' and ''Seven's Super Saturday'' featuring Agro (puppet). ADS is an Australian television station based in Adelaide, South Australia. It is owned and operated by Paramount Networks UK & Australia through their Australian holdings Network 10. History ADS-10 began as ''ADS-7'' on 24 October 1959. In the late 1980s ADS-7 was bought by media entrepreneur Kerry Stokes, who also owned CTC-7 in Canberra. In 1987, Stokes planned to buy the Seven Network from John Fairfax which would have seen ADS-7 Adelaide and CTC-7 Canberra align with ATN-7 Sydney and HSV-7 Melbourne. Stokes offered $100 million more than rival Christopher Skase for Seven, but was ultimately unsuccessful. Unable to build a metropolitan Seven television network, on 7 August 1987, Stokes sold ADS, CTC and his licence for NEW Perth to Northern Star Holdings, owners of Network Ten. TVW is a television station broadcasting in Perth, Western Australia, wholly owned by Seven West Media. It was the first television station in Western Australia, commencing broadcasting on 16 October 1959. It broadcasts a modulated 64-QAM signal of five Digital Video Broadcasting, DVB channels (Seven Network, 7two, 7mate, 7flix and Racing.com). The primary channel was available as a PAL-B modulated simulcast on VHF channel 7 at 182.25 MHz before being discontinued in the first half of 2013; it had been the station's primary signal since its inception. ''Today Tonight'' is an Australian current affairs television program produced by the Seven Network. It aired from January 1995 to November 2019 in Adelaide and Perth. Editions in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne were previously produced before being cancelled in February 2014. History Following the cancellation of ''Real Life'', presented by Stan Grant late in 1994, ''Today Tonight'' was launched in January 1995 to replace it, with separate editions for each main metropolitan market (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth). Simon Reeve (Australian Television Presenter)
Simon Reeve (born 6 September 1961) is an Australian television presenter and journalist, best known for his association with the Seven Network. Reeve was previously the sport presenter on ''Weekend Sunrise ''and the host of ''Million Dollar Minute'' and ''It's Academic''. Career Reeve commenced his career at Channel 7 in Perth, Western Australia in 1979, working as a sports producer and reporter. In 1982, he moved to London to take up a position with Vis News. Reeve returned to Australia in 1984 and joined Western Australian current affairs program '' State Affair'' and also worked on sports program ''What a Week''. At that time he won a Penguin Award for a human interest report and was involved in the commentary team for TVW's host broadcast of the America's Cup defence in 1987. Keith Conlon
Keith Conlon, LL.B. 1968, B.A. 1968 (University of Adelaide), OAM, is a veteran Australian broadcaster based in Adelaide. Conlon previously presented talk radio station 5AA's breakfast program with Jane Reilly, and formerly with Jon Blake, John Kenneally and Tony Pilkington. He is also the current chairman of the Crows Foundation for children in need. In 1971, The University of Adelaide's Department of Adult Education appointed Conlon as the Producer/Manager of its new community radio station which commenced broadcasting as VL5UV on 28 June 1972. He also formerly hosted ''Postcards SA'' on the Nine Network from 1995 until it was cancelled in November 2011. The Logie Awards (officially the TV Week Logie Awards; colloquially known as The Logies) is an annual gathering to celebrate Australian television, sponsored and organised by the magazine ''TV Week''. The first ceremony was held in 1959 as the TV Week Awards. Awards are presented in twenty categories, representing both public and industry voted prizes. The Gold Logie is the most prestigious award and the industry's highest honour; it's awarded to the ''Most Popular Personality on Australian Television'' for the previous year. The award receives much publicity and media attention.
