''Star Time'' is a four-CD box set by American musician James Brown. Released in May 1991 by Polydor Records, its contents span most of the length of his career up to the time of its release, starting in 1956 with his first hit record, "Please, Please, Please", and ending with "Unity", his 1984 collaboration with Afrika Bambaataa. Writing in 2007, Robert Christgau described it as "the finest box set ever released... as essential a package as the biz has ever hawked, not just because it's James Brown, but because compilers Cliff White and Harry Weinger invested so much care and knowledge in it." Its title comes from the question Brown's announcer would ask concert audiences, as heard on the album '' Live at the Apollo'': "Are you ready for star time?" Star Time (film)
''Star Time'' is a 1992 American drama slasher film written, produced, and directed by Alexander Cassini, and starring Michael St. Gerard and Maureen Teefy. Its plot follows a young man in Los Angeles who has a psychological breakdown after the cancellation of his favorite television show, leading him to go on a murder spree. Plot Los Angeles outcast Henry Pinkle is obsessed with television, and becomes suicidal when his favorite sitcom, ''The Robertson Family'', is canceled. Planning on ending his life by jumping from a bridge, he is approached by the mysterious Sam Bones, an elderly man who offers to jump with him before eventually talking him out of the act. Later, Sam inexplicably appears in Henry's living room, and tells him he will no longer be alone. Wendy, Henry's social worker, receives a videotape of him informing her of his suicide, which he mailed to her before the botched attempt. ''Star Time'' is an American variety series which aired on the DuMont Television Network from September 5, 1950, to February 27, 1951, and starred singer-actress Frances Langford. It was broadcast from 10 to 11 p.m. on Tuesdays. Broadcast history The hour-long comedy-variety show spotlighted several regulars and guest performers. One feature of each telecast was a lengthy skit, written and directed by Philip Rapp, with Langford and Lew Parker performing as The Bickersons, a quarrelsome married couple that migrated from radio as a distinctively-unhappy sitcom man and wife. With Langford as a first-class singer, music was an integral component of the series. ''Startime'' is an Australian television series which aired 1962 to 1963. A Sydney-produced variety series with emphasis on music, it was hosted by John Laws and produced by ATN-7, with the series shown interstate (such as on HSV-7 in Melbourne). Startime International
Startime International is a record label founded in 2000 by Isaac Green, owned by Sony Music Entertainment, based in New York City, and distributed by Columbia Records. Its roster includes Foster the People, Coin, Natalie Prass, Bully, Made Violent, Lewis Del Mar, and The Big Moon. History Green moved to Brooklyn and out of his apartment started the label, armed with one band, the French Kicks. Startime's first release was the Kick's EP '' Young Lawyer'' in late 2000, and since then the label's roster has grown significantly with bands picked by Green not for their marketability but for sheer talent. This has paid off with a lot of indie cred points, and with more major labels looking to sign away Startime's acts like Brendan Benson and The Walkmen.
