''Stars of Eger'' (Hungarian:''Egri csillagok'') is a 1968 Hungarian-Bulgarian historical film directed by Zoltán Várkonyi and starring Imre Sinkovits, György Bárdy and István Kovács. It is an adaptation of the 1899 novel '' Eclipse of the Crescent Moon'' by Géza Gárdonyi. An earlier silent film adaptation, '' Stars of Eger'', was made in 1923. ''"Stars of Eger"'' is a direct translation of the original Hungarian title of the novel. Zoltán Várkonyi (13 May 1912 – 10 April 1979) was a Hungarian actor and film director. In 1961, he was a member of the jury at the 2nd Moscow International Film Festival. Four years later, he was a member of the jury at the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. Gergely Bornemissza
Gergely Bornemissza (1526, Pécs – 1555, Constantinople) was a Hungarian soldier and national hero. Not much is known of his early life, although he is known to have been married twice. He is believed to have been an educated man, and a Lutheran. He is mainly known for his role as an explosives expert in the Siege of Eger (1552). After the siege, he was given command of the Castle of Eger. In 1554 he was captured by the Turks, and was executed by hanging in Constantinople after he refused to betray secrets about the defences at Eger. Malkoçoğlu Balı Bey
Malkoçoğlu Bali Bey (1495–1548), also known as Malkoç Bey, was an Ottoman military commander and governor, serving Suleiman the Magnificent. The son of Malkoçoğlu Yaya Pasha who had served as Beylerbey of Anatolia and Rumelia and attained the rank of vizier, marrying a daughter of Bayezid II in 1501, , most probably Hümaşah Sultan. His younger brother was Malkoçoğlu Mehmet Bey. He distinguished himself at the Battle of Mohács (1526). He then served as the governor (''beylerbey'') of the Budin Eyalet after 1541. Isabella Jagiellon ( hu, Izabella királyné, links=no; pl, Izabela Jagiellonka, links=no; 18 January 1519 – 15 September 1559) was the Queen consort of Hungary. She was the oldest child of Polish King Sigismund I the Old, the Grand Duke of Lithuania and his Italian wife Bona Sforza.
