Stars (Canadian Band)
A star is an astronomical object comprising a luminous spheroid of plasma held together by its gravity. The nearest star to Earth is the Sun. Many other stars are visible to the naked eye at night, but their immense distances from Earth make them appear as fixed points of light. The most prominent stars have been categorised into constellations and asterisms, and many of the brightest stars have proper names. Astronomers have assembled star catalogues that identify the known stars and provide standardized stellar designations. The observable universe contains an estimated to stars. ''Nightsongs'' is the first album by Canadian indie rock band Stars, released in 2001 on Le Grand Magistery. At this time, Stars consisted only of Torquil Campbell and Chris Seligman, although both Amy Millan and Emily Haines of Metric make appearances. There is also a very rare vinyl pressing of the record on the Japanese label Syft, which has since gone out of business. The vinyl pressing also has 2 additional tracks ("Friend's Father's Mother" and "Angeline") not featured on the CD version. In Our Bedroom After The War
''In Our Bedroom After the War'' is the fourth studio album by Stars, released digitally on July 10, 2007 and physically on September 25 on the Arts & Crafts record label. It was released to digital retailers in an attempt to battle the album's leak. The title was announced by Amy Millan in an interview with the ''Toronto Star'', and the release date was previously announced by Torquil Campbell on KCRW's ''Morning Becomes Eclectic''. The album was recorded in Vancouver and mixed in Toronto by Joe Chiccarelli. Author Daniel Handler has written a story for the liner notes of the album and plays the accordion in ''Barricade''. In an interview with '' MTV Live'', Stars frontman Torquil Campbell indicated that one of the goals of the band was to create an album that comes across as a unified whole through careful sequencing and thoughtful storytelling instead of simply sounding like a collection of tracks. Music Canada (formerly Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA)) is a non-profit trade organization that was founded 9 April 1963 to represent the interests of companies that record, manufacture, produce, and distribute music in Canada. It also offers benefits to some of Canada's leading independent record labels and distributors. History Originally formed as the 10-member Canadian Record Manufacturer's Association, the association changed its name to Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) in 1972 and opened membership to other record industry companies. In 2006, the CRIA was in the news when a number of smaller labels resigned their memberships, complaining that the organization wasn't representing their interests. In 2011, it changed its name to Music Canada offering special benefits to some of the leading independent labels and distributors in Canada. Top Heatseekers are "Breaking and Entering" music charts issued weekly by ''Billboard'' magazine. The Heatseekers Albums and the Heatseekers Songs charts were introduced by ''Billboard'' in 1991 with the purpose of highlighting the sales by new and developing musical recording artists. Albums and songs appearing on Top Heatseekers may also concurrently appear on the ''Billboard'' 200 or ''Billboard'' Hot 100. ''Set Yourself on Fire'' is the third studio album by Canadian indie rock band Stars. It was released on September 14, 2004 on the Arts & Crafts International record label in Canada and the United Kingdom, and on March 8, 2005 in the United States. The album's most notable single was "Ageless Beauty", the band's breakthrough hit in Canada. "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" has also garnered significant play in the United States. It was featured on the soundtrack of ''The O.C.'' On November 17, 2009, "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" was featured on Fox network's ''So You Think You Can Dance'', season 6. Paper Bag Records is a Canadian independent record label, artist-management company, and music publisher founded in 2002 and based in Toronto. History The label was created to focus on the Toronto-area indie rock music scene. Initial signings were Broken Social Scene and Stars (Canadian band), Stars with their breakthrough albums. ''You Forgot It in People'' and Heart (Stars album), ''Heart'', respectively. The label helped launch the careers of Controller.controller, controller. controller, Tokyo Police Club, and Austra (band), Austra, amongst many others. ''Heart'' is the second studio album by the Canadian indie rock band Stars, released on Paper Bag Records in Canada and on Arts & Crafts in the USA. The album features three regional covers: the Canadian cover features a man embracing a woman who is resting on the man's lap, the US cover features a billboard with a woman's eyes gazing onward, and the European cover features three women spying out of a porthole. The album was originally released with a bonus promotional sampler of acts with current releases on Paper Bag, including Matthew Barber, Hawaii, The FemBots and Uncut. Two tracks from ''Heart'' were repeated on the sampler, along with a non-album bonus track, "Timeless." The US release includes a hidden bonus track, a live version of " The Comeback", originally taken from the 2001 EP of the same name. A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. At first, the discs were commonly made from shellac, with earlier records having a fine abrasive filler mixed in.
