Starmaker (song)
"Starmaker" is a song written by Bruce Roberts and Carole Bayer Sager for Roberts' self-titled album in 1977. It was later popularized in 1982 as the second single by The Kids from "Fame", the recording group of the ''Fame'' TV series based on the 1980 film of the same name. The Kids from "Fame" released five albums and five singles in the UK between 1982 and 1983 with music featured in the TV show. The group's self-titled debut album was released in July 1982 which topped the UK Albums Chart for twelve weeks. Their debut single "Hi Fidelity" was released and this reached number 5 while their second single "Starmaker" entered the UK charts at number 38, then stayed on the charts for 10 weeks peaking at number 3, the highest charting of The Kids from "Fame"'s singles. In 1983 the song reached fifth place in the Dutch chart, with nine weeks in total. In the United States, WIFI -AM- Philadelphia deemed it a Playlist Top Add-on. Bruce Roberts (singer)
Bruce Roberts is an American singer and songwriter. His songs have been recorded by such artists as The Pointer Sisters, Donna Summer, Barbra Streisand, Jeffrey Osborne, Whitney Houston and Laura Branigan. He has released three albums as a solo artist including ''Intimacy'' (1995), which featured musical and vocal contributions by many notable artists; Elton John and Kristine W contributed to the single "When the Money's Gone". Bruce Roberts' song catalog is published by Reservoir Media Management. Roberts, according to Danny Bonaduce, provided most of the vocals accredited to Bonaduce on his self-titled album ''Danny Bonaduce'' in 1973. The Kids From "Fame"
The Kids from "Fame" was the group name of several cast members from the American TV series '' Fame'' who had a number of hit singles and albums at the height of the show's success in the United Kingdom. This success culminated in tours of Britain, where they performed live in concert. A live album was subsequently released. Background The group came to prominence in the summer of 1982 when the series first aired on BBC One in the United Kingdom and a song from the program, "Hi Fidelity", peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart. ''Fame'' is an American television series originally produced between January 7, 1982, and May 18, 1987, by Eilenna Productions in association with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Television and sponsored by Yamaha musical instruments, which are prominently showcased in the episodes. The show is based on the 1980 motion picture of the same name. Using a mixture of comedy, drama and music, it followed the lives of the students and faculty at the New York City High School for the Performing Arts, now known as the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. Most interior scenes were filmed in Hollywood, California. ''Fame'' is a 1980 American teen musical drama film directed by Alan Parker. Set in New York City, it chronicles the lives and hardships of students attending the High School of Performing Arts (known today as Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School), from their auditions to their freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years. Producer David De Silva conceived the premise in 1976, partially inspired by the musical ''A Chorus Line''. He commissioned playwright Christopher Gore to write the script, originally titled ''Hot Lunch'', before selling it to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. ''Top of the Pops'' (''TOTP'') is a British Record chart, music chart television programme, made by the BBC and originally broadcast weekly between 1January 1964 and 30 July 2006. The programme was the world's longest-running weekly music show. For most of its history, it was broadcast on Thursday evenings on BBC One. Each show consisted of performances of some of the week's best-selling popular music records, usually excluding any tracks moving down the chart, including a rundown of that week's singles chart. This was originally the Top 20, though this varied throughout the show's history. The Top 30 was used from 1969, and the Top 40 from 1984. Leonard Charles "Lee" Curreri (born January 4, 1961) is an American actor and musician, most known for his work in the film, '' Fame'' (1980) and its television spinoff, '' Fame'' (1982–1987). Life and work Curreri was born in New York City, in the Bronx, and attended high school at Fordham Preparatory School. He also attended the Manhattan School of Music.
