Starkey, New York
Starkey is a town in Yates County, New York, United States. The population was 3,573 at the 2010 census. The town is in the southeastern section of the county and is south of Geneva. History Starkey may have been settled around 1798, but a scouting party of the Sullivan Expedition of 1779, found an occupied cabin north of Glenora. The town became part of the county in 1824, the year after Yates County was created, and was formed from the town of Reading (in Schuyler County). The Thomas Bennett Curtis House, William Swortz House, Crescent Methodist Episcopal Church, John Noyes House, Starkey United Methodist Church, Daniel Supplee Cobblestone Farmhouse, and Dr. Henry Spence Cobblestone Farmhouse and Barn Complex are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Starkey, Oregon
Starkey is an unincorporated community in Union County, Oregon, United States, about 26 miles southwest of La Grande. It is about two miles south of Oregon Route 244 in the Blue Mountains. Starkey post office was established in 1879 and named after the first postmaster, John Starkey, who settled in the area in the 1870s. The originally proposed name, Daleyville, was rejected. The post office closed in 1935. Starkey was the headquarters of the Mount Emily Lumber Company. The population was 50 in 1919 and 75 in 1931. Starkey is an unincorporated community in southern Roanoke County, Virginia, United States. The community lies south of U.S. 221 near the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is the location of the Starkey School listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Starkey takes its name from the land owned by Tazewell M. Starkey. "The Starkey community took its name from the Starkey family, who, along with the Harveys, Sloans and Fowlers, were among the first settlers. The village incorporated land once owned by Tazewell Starkey. In the days when Roanoke's roads were rough and muddy, Starkey was an important shipping point for apples, barrels and barrel staves, which were sent in great quantities to Winston-Salem, North Carolina." Starkey School is a historic school building located at Starkey, Roanoke County, Virginia. It was built about 1915, and is thought to incorporate an earlier one-room school built about 1894. It is a brick school building flanked by wings built in 1928, and measuring 24 feet by 33 feet. In December 1962, the school was closed and was purchased by Roanoke County. Starkey Wilderness Preserve is a public recreation and nature conservation area located in Pasco County, Florida. The park includes a system of hiking, bicycling, and equestrian trails, cabins and primitive camping sites, and picnic areas. It is named after Jay B. Starkey, a cattle rancher who bought the property in 1937 and later donated hundreds of acres. The Preserve consists of three tracts: the Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park, managed by Pasco County, and Serenova Tract and the Anclote River Ranch Tract, managed by Southwest Florida Water Management District. Operation Cockade was a series of deception operations designed to alleviate German pressure on Allied operations in Sicily and on the Soviets on the Eastern Front by feinting various attacks into Western Europe during World War II. The Allies hoped to use Cockade to force the Luftwaffe into a massive air battle with the Royal Air Force and U.S. Eighth Air Force to give the Allies air superiority over Western Europe.
