Starfish Hill Wind Farm
Starfish Hill Wind Farm is a wind power station spread over two hills near Cape Jervis, South Australia. It has 22 wind turbines, eight on Starfish Hill itself and 14 on Salt Creek Hill, with a combined generating capacity of 33 MW of electricity. Starfish Hill Wind Farm was commissioned in September 2003, making it the first major wind farm in the state. On 30 October 2010, one of the original 23 turbines caught fire and was destroyed. It was not replaced, leaving the wind farm with 22 turbines. Starfish Hill Wind Farm was developed by Tarong Energy at a cost of $65 million. NEG Micon
NEG Micon was a Denmark, Danish wind turbine manufacturer. It was formed in 1997 as a result of a merger between Nordtank Energy Group (NEG) and Moerup Industrial Windmill Construction Company (Micon). The company was merged with another Danish wind turbine manufacturer, Vestas, in 2004, and it is now operating under that name. The company produced wind turbines for many different countries including Canada, Denmark, Germany, Sri Lanka and United States. Cape Jervis
Cape Jervis is a town in the Australian state of South Australia located near the western tip of Fleurieu Peninsula on the southern end of the Main South Road approximately south of the state capital of Adelaide. It is named after the headland (also known by its Aboriginal name Parewarangk) at the western tip of Fleurieu Peninsula which was named by Matthew Flinders after John Jervis, 1st Earl of St Vincent on 23 March 1802. Tarong Energy
Tarong Energy was an electricity generation company in Australia. It was fully owned by the Queensland Government, and had a portfolio of generating sites using thermal coal and hydroelectric power in Queensland. Following a review by the Treasurer of Queensland of the state's electricity sector in 2010, the assets of Tarong Energy were split between Stanwell Corporation and CS Energy on 1 July 2011. Tarong Energy as an entity became a subsidiary of Stanwell Corporation. The restructure was made to save costs. The company supplied roughly one quarter of Queensland's electricity supply. Wind power became a significant energy source within South Australia over the first two decades of the 21st century. In 2015, there was an installed capacity of 1,475 MW, which accounted for 34% of electricity production in the state. This accounted for 35% of Australia's installed wind power capacity. In 2021, there was an installed capacity of 2052.95 MW, which accounted for 42.1% of the electricity production in the state in 2020.
