Starblazer
''Starblazer - Space Fiction Adventure in Pictures'' was a British small-format comics anthology in black and white published by D. C. Thomson & Co. Ltd. History The comic book magazine was launched in response to the popularity of science fiction in the 1970s at the cinema and on television. A science fiction comic had first been considered by Ian Chisholm and Jack Smith, editors at DC Thomson, in 1976. A decision was made to launch the comic in September 1978. Smith was the first editor. His successors in the role were Bill Graham and Bill McLoughlin. ''Starblazer'' reached 281 issues, running from April 1979, to 1 January 1991. The front cover was printed in colour while the back page featured an ongoing subject that was relevant to space. This included pictures of astronauts, brief details of the missions they were on, artificial satellites and the planets and planetoids of the Solar System. Mike Chinn
Mike Chinn is a horror, fantasy, science fiction and comics writer from Birmingham, England. Chinn has been nominated for the British Fantasy Award for Best Collection and Best Short Story. He created the Anglerre fantasy series and Robot Kid science fiction books for the Starblazer comic, published by D. C. Thomson & Co. Ltd. Starblazer has been resurrected as a licensed role-playing game from Cubicle 7 Entertainment, entitled '' Starblazer Adventures''. Chinn has contributed to the RPG supplement '' Legends of Anglerre'', based on the Anglerre world and characters that he created for Starblazer. Enrique Alcatena
Enrique Alcatena (born 26 February 1957) is an Argentine comic book artist. He is known as Quique Alcatena in his native country and Latin America. Biography A self-taught artist, Alcatena began his career in the 1970s as assistant of Chiche Medrano, working for Argentine publisher Ediciones Récord; his first signed work appeared in the magazine ''Pif Pif'' in 1976. In 1982 he started to work for the children's magazine ''Anteojito ''where his work was mostly surreal fantasy full of mythology. John Smith (born 1967) is a British comic book writer best known for his work on the weekly anthology '' 2000 AD'' and its spin-off title ''Crisis'', particularly the ''Indigo Prime'', '' Devlin Waugh'' and '' New Statesmen'' serials. Career Smith's earliest published work appeared in the DC Thomson's science fiction comic ''Starblazer'' in the mid-1980s. ''Fate ''is a generic role-playing game system based on the ''Fudge'' gaming system. It has no fixed setting, traits, or genre and is customizable. It is designed to offer minimal obstruction to role-playing by assuming players want to make fewer dice rolls. ''Fate'' was written by Fred Hicks and Rob Donoghue; the 1st edition was published in early 2003, and the latest version (4th edition) was published successfully through crowd sourcing Kickstarter in 2013. Best known for its ''Doctor Who'' and ''Lord of the Rings'' games, Cubicle 7 offers titles covering a range of licensed and self-developed properties. John Radford (wine)
John Radford, born in Nottingham on 1 December 1946, died on 19 October 2012, was a British writer and broadcaster in the field of wine and food, with an emphasis on Spain. He was educated at Stamford School in Lincolnshire. Career After a background in the food and drink industry and retail, Radford's writing career started with children's comics, principally for the Dundee publishing house of D. C. Thomson & Co., with ''Judy'' comic for girls, for which he wrote a good deal of the annuals from 1978 to 1985 as well as the weekly paper. ''Commando For Action and Adventure'', formerly known as ''Commando War Stories in Pictures'', and colloquially known as ''Commando Comics'', is a British comic book magazine that primarily draws its themes and backdrops from the various incidents of the First and Second World Wars.
