Starbase Indy
Starbase Indy is a science fiction convention. Its mission, revised in 2017, is "Celebrating Star Trek's vision of the future by promoting humanitarianism and Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, STEM education today." Working to promote Gene Roddenberry's vision of a hopeful future, Starbase Indy reorganized as Public-benefit nonprofit corporation, public benefit corporation with the purpose of raising the interest and improving the knowledge and skills of all ages in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through engagement in public discussion, lectures, and hands-on programs during a yearly event in November. The organization also works to eliminate prejudice and discrimination through intentional inclusivity, promotion of diversity, and specifically designed activities. Starbase Indy has also launched a related podcast, thStarbase Indy Podcast which interviews people who are inspired by Star Trek or science fiction to work toward a hopeful future in the ... The concepts of Space station, space stations and space habitats feature in science fiction. The difference between the two is that habitats are larger and more complex structures intended as permanent homes for substantial populations (though generation ships also fit this description, they are usually not considered space habitats as they are heading for a destination), but the line between the two is fuzzy with significant overlap and the term space station is sometimes used for both concepts. Sarek
Sarek is a fictional character in the ''Star Trek'' media franchise. He is a Vulcan astrophysicist, the Vulcan ambassador to the United Federation of Planets, and father of Spock. The character was originally played by Mark Lenard in the episode "Journey to Babel" in 1967. Lenard later voiced Sarek in the animated series, and appeared in Star Trek films and the series '' Star Trek: The Next Generation''. Five Year Mission
Five Year Mission is a ''Star Trek'' tribute band from Indianapolis, Indiana. The band is composed of five Trekkies who aspire to write a song for every episode of the original ''Star Trek'' series. History The idea to write a song for every ''Star Trek'' episode was created by Mike Rittenhouse. He approached Noah Butler, whom he knew was a Star Trek fan, and the two decided to form a band to record the songs in-studio. They proceeded to find three additional band mates, Patrick O'Connor, Chris Spurgin, and Andy Fark, and four of them served as song writers, each selecting ''Star Trek'' episodes to write about for Year One. The band performed live for the first time, wearing ''Star Trek'' uniforms, at the Melody Inn in 2010. They were named "Best New Band" in Indianapolis that year. Erin Macdonald
Erin Macdonald is an astrophysicist, aerospace engineer, and science fiction consultant. She hosts the YouTube channel, Dr. Erin Explains the Universe, teaches STEM through popular culture, and consults with science fiction creators. Education and early career Macdonald credits fictional characters such as Dana Scully and Kathryn Janeway (the latter of whom she even acknowledges in her Ph.D. dissertation) with providing the inspiration to pursue a science career.
