The Star Awards for Best Variety Programme is an award presented annually at the Star Awards, a ceremony that was established in 1994. The category was introduced in 1998, at the 5th Star Awards ceremony; ''Comedy Night'' received the award and it is given in honour of a Mediacorp variety programme which has delivered an outstanding overall performance. The nominees are determined by a team of judges employed by Mediacorp; winners are selected by a majority vote from the entire judging panel. Since its inception, the award has been given to 21 variety programmes. ''The Inner Circle'' is the most recent winner in this category. Since the ceremony held in 2019, ''City Beat'', ''The Joy Truck'', ''Say It If You Dare'' and ''GeTai Challenge'' remain as the only four variety programmes to win in this category twice. Star Awards
The Star Awards (Chinese: 红星大奖) are awards for artistic and technical merit in the media organisation Mediacorp of Singapore where Mediacorp recognises entertainers under their employment for outstanding performances of the year. The awards are given annually in a ceremony. The various category winners are awarded a trophy, with initial designs featuring various star shapes. The star was subsequently removed and the trophy is designed as a S shaped column, depicting the star. History The 1st Star Awards presentation was held on 26 February 1994, took place at the Caldecott Broadcast Centre, MediaCorp TV Theatre with an audience of about 500 people. There have no other pre-show and post-awards ceremony held in that year. SuperBand
''SuperBand'' () is a spin-off of '' Project SuperStar'', a popular singing talent-search competition in Singapore. Contestants are bands of 2 to 6 people. To mark the opening of the first season, a special SuperBand Big Jam where all the 18 bands made their debut at Suntec City's Fountain of Wealth, and was aired as a special at 8:45pm on April 9, 2006. After which, the show was broadcast at 7:30pm on Monday starting from April 10, 2006 for the first 4 episodes of Season 1. Subsequent episodes were aired at 8:00pm. The results show were aired 'live' at 11:30pm on MediaCorp Channel U. For Season 2, all shows were on Monday at 8:00pm from June 16, 2008 with the results show delayed at 11:30pm after an earlier recording at about 10:00pm. An exception was on August 18, 2008, when the main show was aired at 7:00pm due to the telecast of the National Day Rally's English speech at 8:00pm. ''Happy Can Already!'' () is a Singapore Chinese variety series which is telecast on Singapore's free-to-air channel, Mediacorp Channel 8. It stars Jack Neo, Mark Lee, Wang Lei, Benjamin Tan, Chua Lee Lian & Jaspers Lai as the casts of the series. ''Happy Can Already!'' aired from 2 December 2016 to 3 February 2017, every Friday from 12:00pm to 12:30pm. This was the first non-Mandarin Chinese variety show to be produced on Channel 8 after a 30-year hiatus. This series is primarily targeted at Singaporean elderly as most of them speak Chinese dialects at home. BENGpire
BENGpire is a magazine show produced by Mediacorp Channel 8 and hosted by Wang Weiliang and Desmond Ng. The show title is a portmanteau of the terms " Ah Beng" and "vampire". In Chinese, it is also known as 黑黑真好玩, which literally means "it's fun in the dark". Format Every Tuesday night, the two BENGpires Wang Weiliang and Desmond Ng come out from a corner of town and take viewers to places at night which are both enjoyable and fun. Three F&B outlets and/or entertainment places are introduced in each episode based on a theme. The BENGpires and three others rate the overall experience for each of the places at the end - "Come if you can't sleep" (睡不着就来), "Come after sleep" (睡饱应该来) and the highest rating, "Come even without sleep" (不睡也要来). ''Campus SuperStar'' is a Singaporean television music competition to find new singing talent. Contestants are students from secondary schools, junior colleges and institutes of technical education. The fourth season debuted on Y.E.S. 93.3FM on 3 January 2013, and began airing on MediaCorp Channel U on 18 February 2013 and ended on 31 March 2013. Gatekeepers (小兵迎大将) is a Singaporean Chinese language game show which aired in 2010 on MediaCorp Channel 8. The series premiered on 31 August 2010 and ended on 23 November, airing on 13 Tuesday nights at 8:00pm. Hosted by Guo Liang along with Dennis Chew (as "Aunty Lucy"), each episode features 36 Primary 5 and 6 students from a primary school who are challenged with the task of "defending" a cash prize of S$18,000 for their school.
