Stanley N. Thorup
Stanley N. Thorup (September 19, 1929 – September 10, 1997) was an American lawyer and politician. Thorup was born in Leal, Barnes County, North Dakota. He went to Marshall High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota and served in the United States Army. Thorup graduated from Hamline University and received his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law. He served as a law clerk for the Minnesota Supreme Court. Thorup lived in Blaine, Minnesota with his wife and family and practiced law in Blaine, Minnesota. Thorup served in the Minnesota Senate from 1971 to 1974 and was a Democrat. He served as a Minnesota Municipal Court Judge for Blaine and Spring Lake Park, Minnesota from 1962 to 1969 and as the Anoka County District Court Judge from 1974 to 1997. Leal is a city in Barnes County, North Dakota, Barnes County in the U.S. state, state of North Dakota. The population was 27 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. Leal was founded in 1892. The name comes from the Scots language, Scots word for "faithful," which in the phrase ''laund o the leal'' means Heaven. Brainerd is a city in Crow Wing County, Minnesota, United States. Its population was 14,395 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Crow Wing County. Brainerd straddles the Mississippi River several miles upstream from its confluence with the Crow Wing River, having been founded as a site for a railroad crossing above the confluence. Barnes County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,853. Its county seat is Valley City. In 1872, the Dakota Territory legislature authorized Burbank County (named for governor John A. Burbank); in 1874 they renamed it Barnes County, for Alanson H. Barnes (1818–1890), an associate justice of the Territorial Court. It was organized at Valley City on January 6, 1879.
