Stanley Mitchell (cricketer)
James Stanley Lyons Mitchell (born 19 October 1946) is a former Irish first-class cricketer. Life Mitchell was born at Cullion in County Tyrone in October 1946, and was educated at Foyle College in Derry. He first played club cricket for Donemana, before moving to Belfast to study at Queen's University, where he joined the university cricket club. Mitchell made his debut for Ireland in a minor match against the Netherlands at Amstelveen on Ireland's 1974 tour of the Netherlands. Later that year, he made a single appearance in first-class cricket for Ireland against Scotland at Alloway. Playing as a middle order batsman, Mitchell batted twice in the match. He was dismissed in Ireland's first-innings for 2 runs by Jack Clark, while in their second-innings he was dismissed by Frank Robertson for 27 runs. Cambusdoon
Cambusdoon was a cricket ground in Ayr, Scotland. The ground was used by Ayr Cricket Club until the club moved from the ground in 1997 to the purpose built Cambusdoon New Ground. The first recorded match held on the ground was in 1931 when Ayr Cricket Club played against Kelburne Cricket Club. First first-class match played the grounds when Scotland played against Ireland in 1958. A further first-class match was played there when Scotland played Ireland in 1974. The ground held its final recorded match in 1990 when Scotland Under-23s played Ireland Under-23s. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). The 2005 ICC Trophy was a cricket tournament held in Ireland between 1 July and 13 July 2005. It was an international one-day tournament played over 50 overs per side between 12 Associate Members of the International Cricket Council. Phoenix Cricket Club is a Dublin-based club that currently fields six men's teams, two women's teams, youth teams (for both sexes) in six age bands and an over 40s "Taverners" team.
