Stanley Link (1894 - December 24, 1957 ) was an American cartoonist and comics artists, best known for ''Tiny Tim (comic strip), Tiny Tim''. Link took a correspondence course in cartooning when he was a teenager. When he was sixteen, he began to work with an animation company. In the early 1920s, he became Sidney Smith (cartoonist), Sidney Smith's assistant. He launched the panel ''Ching Chow'' in 1927. ''Tiny Tim'' was an American Sunday strip created by Stanley Link. It ran from October 4, 1931, to March 2, 1958. It followed the adventures of Tim Grunt and his sister Dotty, both only two inches tall at the start of the strip. However, they grew six inches during the first three months. After that, they were taken in by a farm couple. Robert Sidney Smith (February 13, 1877 – October 20, 1935), known as Sidney Smith, was the creator of the influential comic strip '' The Gumps'', based on an idea by Captain Joseph M. Patterson, editor and publisher of the ''Chicago Tribune''. Biography He was born in Bloomington, Illinois. The son of a dentist, Smith never finished high school and began drawing cartoons for his hometown newspaper when he was 18. He also delivered chalk talks and worked in newspaper art departments in Indiana, Pennsylvania and Ohio. In 1908, he signed on as a sports cartoonist at the '' Chicago Examiner'' where he created a talking goat in a feature, ''Buck Nix'', which involved continuity: "What will tomorrow bring?" In 1911, Smith moved to the ''Chicago Tribune'', where he introduced a new goat character when '' Old Doc Yak'' began as a daily on February 5, 1912, with the Sunday page starting a month later on March 10. Don Markstein's Toonopedia (subtitled A Vast Repository of Toonological Knowledge) is an online encyclopedia of print cartoons, comic strips and animation, initiated February 13, 2001. Donald D. Markstein, the sole writer and editor of Toonopedia, termed it "the world's first hypertext encyclopedia of toons" and stated, "The basic idea is to cover the entire spectrum of American cartoonery." Markstein began the project during 1999 with several earlier titles: he changed Don's Cartoon Encyberpedia (1999) to Don Markstein's Cartoonopedia (2000) after learning the word "Encyberpedia" had been trademarked. During 2001, he settled on his final title, noting, "Decided (after thinking about it for several weeks) to change the name of the site to Don Markstein's Toonopedia, rather than Cartoonopedia.
