Stanley Burbury
Sir Stanley Charles Burbury, (3 December 1909 – 24 April 1995) was an Australian jurist. He was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, and the first Australian-born person appointed as Governor of Tasmania, serving from 1973 to 1982. Biography Stanley Burbury was born on 3 December 1909 in Perth, Western Australia. He had a distinguished career in law in Tasmania, culminating in becoming Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tasmania. Burbury was appointed Governor of Tasmania in 1973, the first Australian to hold the office. He was also National President of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. Burbury died on 24 April 1995 at Hobart, Tasmania. Honours Burbury was created a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in the 1958 New Years Honours. Winston Churchill Memorial Trusts (WCMT) are three independent but related living memorials to Sir Winston Churchill, based in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. They exist for the purpose of administering Churchill Fellowships, also known as Churchill Travelling Fellowships, to provide an opportunity for applicants to travel overseas to conduct research in their chosen fields. The governor of Tasmania is the representative in the Australian state of Tasmania of the Monarch of Australia, currently King Charles III. Lake Burbury
Lake Burbury is a man-made water reservoir created by the Crotty Dam inundating the upper King River valley that lies east of the West Coast Range. Discharge from the reservoir feeds the John Butters Hydroelectric Power Station, owned and operated by Hydro Tasmania. The reservoir was named in honour of Stanley Burbury, a former Governor of Tasmania. Water source The lake is fed mainly by rivers from the north, including the upper King River, and the Eldon River.
